Patricia is building the community dog park. She plans to build the dog park right beside the city park so she can use one side

of the existing fence. Her budget allows her to purchase 340 feet of fencing. In order to make the area of the dog park as large as possible, determine the dimensions of the dog park if one side of the fence is attached to the city park’s fence.

Answer:

85 feet by 170 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

This one relies on Calculus.

so you have 340   feet.

Let  x = width,   y = length of rectangle

one side of this rectangle will not use the new fence material

so  2x + y = 340 feet.

Area = x*y

We want to maximize  Area

Area  A = x*y = x*(340 - 2x)

Take the derivative of A  w.r.t.  x

dA/dx =  340 - 4x

set it to 0

340 - 4x = 0

4x = 340

x = 85 feet

and y = 340 - 2x = 340 - 2*85 = 340 - 170 = 170 feet

Which equation can be used to find the length of Line segment A C? Triangle A B C is shown. Angle A C B is 90 degrees and angle
taurus [48]

<u><em>Answer:</em></u>

AC = 10sin(40°)

<u><em>Explanation:</em></u>

The diagram representing the question is shown in the attached image

Since the given triangle is a right-angled triangle, we can apply the special trig functions

<u>These functions are as follows:</u>

sin(θ) = opposite / hypotenuse

cos(θ) = adjacent / hypotenuse

tan(θ) = opposite / adjacent

<u>Now, in the given diagram:</u>

θ = 40°

AC is the side opposite to θ

AB = 10 in is the hypotenuse

<u>Based on these givens</u>, we will use the sin(θ) function

<u>Therefore:</u>

sin(40) = \frac{AC}{10}\\ \\AC = 10sin(40)

A box contains 5 red and 5 blue marbles. Two marbles are withdrawn randomly. If they are the same color, then you win $1.10; if
topjm [15]

Answer:

a) The expected value is \frac{-1}{15}

b) The variance is  \frac{49}{45}

Step-by-step explanation:

We can assume that both marbles are withdrawn at the same time. We will define the probability as follows

#events of interest/total number of events.

We have 10 marbles in total. The number of different ways in which we can withdrawn 2 marbles out of 10 is \binom{10}{2}.

Consider the case in which we choose two of the same color. That is, out of 5, we pick 2. The different ways of choosing 2 out of 5 is \binom{5}{2}. Since we have 2 colors, we can either choose 2 of them blue or 2 of the red, so the total number of ways of choosing is just the double.

Consider the case in which we choose one of each color. Then, out of 5 we pick 1. So, the total number of ways in which we pick 1 of each color is \binom{5}{1}\cdot \binom{5}{1}. So, we define the following probabilities.

Probability of winning: \frac{2\binom{5}{2}}{\binom{10}{2}}= \frac{4}{9}

Probability of losing \frac{(\binom{5}{1})^2}{\binom{10}{2}}\frac{5}{9}

Let X be the expected value of the amount you can win. Then,

E(X) = 1.10*probability of winning - 1 probability of losing =1.10\cdot  \frac{4}{9}-\frac{5}{9}=\frac{-1}{15}

Consider the expected value of the square of the amount you can win, Then

E(X^2) = (1.10^2)*probability of winning + probability of losing =1.10^2\cdot  \frac{4}{9}+\frac{5}{9}=\frac{82}{75}

We will use the following formula

Var(X) = E(X^2)-E(X)^2

Thus

Var(X) = \frac{82}{75}-(\frac{-1}{15})^2 = \frac{49}{45}

The pillars in front of Mr. Jefferson's home are shaped like cylinders. The pillars have a height of 24 ft and a radius of 8 in.
GREYUIT [131]

Answer:

  • <u>Option A. about 100.5ft²</u>

<u />

Explanation:

Since the <em>bases</em> must not be painted, their areas are <em>not included</em> in the calculation.

The <em>surface</em> to paint, of each pillar, is equal to the lateral area of a<em> cylinder </em>with he dimensions given.

The formula for the laeral area of a cylinder is:

        Lateral\text{ }area=2\pi \times radius \times height

Substitute including the conversion factor to convert inches to feet:

        Lateral\text{ }area=2\pi \times 8in\times 1ft/12in \times 24ft=100.5ft^2
