Block A, mass 250 g , sits on top of block B, mass 2.0 kg . The coefficients of static and kinetic friction between blocks A and

B are 0.34 and 0.23, respectively. Block B sits on a frictionless surface. What is the maximum horizontal force that can be applied to block B, without block A slipping

Answer:

  F = 69.3 N

Explanation:

For this exercise we use Newton's second law, remembering that the static friction force increases up to a maximum value given by

               fr = μ N

We define a reference system parallel to the floor

block B  ( lower)

Y axis

            N - W₁-W₂ = 0

            N = W₂ + W₂

            N = (M + m) g

X axis

              F -fr = M a

for block A (upper)

X axis

              fr = m a                 (2)

so that the blocks do not slide, the acceleration in both must be the same.

Let's solve the system by adding the two equations

             F = (M + m) a          (3)

             a =\frac{F}{ M+m}

the friction force has the formula

            fr = μ N

             fr = μ (M + m) g

let's calculate

            fr = 0.34 (2.0 + 0.250) 9.8

            fr = 7.7 N

we substitute in equation 2

             fr = m a

             a = fr / m

             a = 7.7 / 0.250

             a = 30.8 m / s²

we substitute in equation 3

             F = (2.0 + 0.250) 30.8

             F = 69.3 N

A small cylinder rests on a circular turntable that is rotating clockwise at a constant speed. Which set of vectors gives the di
I am Lyosha [343]

The question is missing the diagram. Also, the choices must have pictorial representation. So, I have attached the missing diagram and the pictorial representation of the vectors.

Answer:

The correct representation is attached below. Force and acceleration will be towards the center of rotation while the velocity will be along the tangent to the circular motion. Option (D).

Explanation:

From the figure, we can conclude the following points:

1. The cylinder is under a uniform circular motion as the circular table is moving at constant speed.

2. For a circular motion, velocity acts along the tangent to the circular path.

3. For a circular motion, centripetal force acts on the body that causes it move around a circular path.

4 The direction of the centripetal force is radially inward towards the center of rotation.

5. The centripetal force causes a centripetal acceleration acting on the body.

6. From Newton's second law, the net acceleration of a body is in the same direction as that of the net force acting on it. So, centripetal acceleration also acts in the radially inward direction.

Therefore, from the above conclusions, it is clear that velocity will act in the horizontal direction at the given instance of time and force and acceleration will act vertically down for the given instance.

This is shown in the picture below. The option (D).

A cyclist moving with a constant velocity of 6.0 m/s forward passes a car that is just starting. If the car has a constant accel
sergiy2304 [10]

After 6 seconds, the car will surpass the cyclist.

Explanation:

The speed of the cyclist = 6 m/s.

Let after time t sec, the car will overtake the cyclist.

So, distance covered by the cyclist in t sec = 6t m

Initial velocity of the car is 0 m/s, because the car is just starting.

Acceleration of the car =2 m/s^2.

Final velocity of the car =6 m/s.

So to cover the distance 6t, the time required by the car = \frac{1}{2} \times a \times t^2 = \frac{1}{2} \times 2 \times t^2

6t = \frac{1}{2} \times 2 \times t^2\\6t = t^2

t =6 sec

So, after 6 seconds, the car will surpass the cycle.

What is the explanation for how a modern transmission electron microscope (TEM) can achieve a resolution of about 0.2 nanometers
IgorC [24]

Answer:

Explanation:

A simple light microscope uses light for imaging of objects where as a transmission electron microscope uses a monochromatic beam of electrons.

This beam is passed by a magnetic field which is very strong and thus act as a lens.

Its resolution of very high which is about 0.2 nanometers because of the separation between two atoms.

Because of this reason its resolution is about 1000 times greater than light microscope.

A plane increases its speed from 450 km/hr to 750 km/hr in 0.30 hour. What is its acceleration?
ryzh [129]

Answer:

The acceleration is found as:

a = 1000 km/h²

Explanation:

Initial speed of the plane = 450 km/h

Final speed of the plane = 750 km/h

Time taken = 0.3 h

Acceleration can be defined as the change of speed of the object divided by the time taken to bring that change

Acceleration is given as:

a=\frac{v_f-v_i}{t}

where v(f) = 750 km/h , v(i) = 450 km/h , t = 0.3 h

Substitute the values in the equation of acceleration

a= \frac{750-450}{0.3}\\a=\frac{300}{0.3}\\a=1000 km/h^2

This is the found result
