In the Florida Everglades, Burmese pythons are an invasive species. They were introduced into southern Florida in 1992. These py

thons feed on many of the native Florida species, establishing the pythons as the top predator in the environment. By the year 2000, their population had increased dramatically.
Figures 1 and 2 display data collected by ecologists studying the results of the Burmese python invasion. Figure 1 shows counts of animals collected from nighttime road surveys in southern Florida, which are used to estimate population size. Figure 2 shows data collected from mosquitoes captured from the wild. DNA sequencing was used to identify the species of blood that the mosquitoes had in their stomachs, identifying various hosts used by the mosquitoes.

In 1996, the native Culex cedecei mosquitoes in southern Florida preferentially took blood meals from white-tailed deer and raccoons. It was predicted that changes in host population size would alter these host preferences. Additionally, it is known that cotton rats are often infected by the Everglades virus, which normally exists in animals, but is capable of infecting humans. Ecologists predict that increased feeding on cotton rats by C. cedecei may significantly increase the tendency of this virus to infect humans.

Which of the following most accurately explains an impact of Burmese pythons on the Everglades community in southern Florida using the data provided?

A - Python parasitism has reduced the population of white-tailed deer and raccoons.
B - Python predation has caused a trophic cascade that changed the mosquitoes' niche.
C - Pythons have a mutual symbiosis with cotton rats, allowing their population to increase.
D - Intraspecific competition for food between white-tailed deer and raccoons has increased due to pythons.

Answer:

B - Python predation has caused a trophic cascade that changed the mosquitoes' niche.

Explanation:

The passage infers that the predation by the Burmese pythons has reduced the population of the animals in Southern Florida thus making the Culex cedecei mosquito to have a reduced number of options to feed from. This is stressed when the author notes that these mosquitoes are now feeding on cotton rats which harbor the Everglades virus that also have the potentials of being transmitted to humans.

Summarily, the passage is saying that the invasion by the Burmese python has changed the niche of most animals including the mosquitoes in the Southern Florida's wild.

A factor that promotes maximum production of atp in cellular metabolism is the presence of
Andrews [41]
The answer to this question would be: oxygen

The presence of oxygen allows the cell to do the aerobic reaction. Using in metabolism will result in a much higher number of ATP produced.
When there is no oxygen, the cells make energy using the anaerobic reaction that gives a low number of ATP.

<h2>Material Do Alice and Julio Likely Work - Option B</h2>

Alice and Julio’s company makes protective coverings for off-roading vehicles. Alice’s job involves harvesting a natural polymer from trees. Julio’s job is to take that material and change it chemically to create a synthetic polymer.

Alice and Julio most likely work with natural rubber and vulcanized rubber. Alice works with natural rubber, and Julio works with vulcanized rubber.

Which of the Earth’s subsystems is directly affected by burning fossil fuels?
gulaghasi [49]

The correct answer is option (d) atmosphere.

Fossil fuels are the hydrocarbons formed in the geological past, derived from the remains of dead plants and animals. They include the coal, fuel gas and the natural gas. The burning of fossil fuels is one of the greatest contributor of carbon dioxide being added to the atmosphere. This results in the pollution of air in the atmosphere resulting in the formation of smog. Carbon dioxide being a green house gas, affects the atmosphere and causes green house effect leading to global warming and climate changes.

The burning of fossil fuels affects the geosphere, biosphere and hydrosphere indirectly due to its primary direct effect on the atmosphere. Thus, atmosphere is directly affected by the burning of fossil fuels.

Explain have a fats sugars and or starch contained in seeds or milk are useful for the plant sprouting from the seed or the baby
Kipish [7]
There is a lot of calories in fats that can be a good help and can be used for growth, fats are high energy molecules that help in growing organism. Fats produces carbon dioxide, water, and ATP when metabolism.  The sugars and or starch is useful in the same method, they provide calories necessary for a seed or baby animal to grow. The sugars used in glycolysis and then the products of glycolysis used in  the citric acid cycle, and the starch can be cleaved into more manageable sugars.
