A.
   h = 14 ft · sin 30° = 14 ft · 0.5 = 7 ft.
b.
   From the bottom of the height to the bottom of the slide:
   y² = 14² - 7² = 196 - 49 = 147
   y = √147 = 12.12 ft
   15 ft - 12.12 ft = 2.88 ft ( from the bottom of the stairs to the bottom of the height )
    tan x = 7 / 2.88 = 2.43
    ∠x = tan^(-1) 2.43
    ∠x = 67.63° ≈ 68°.

How do you explain to estimate 368+231 in two different ways
Ludmilka [50]
You can use the break apart strategy which would look like:
368+231= 300+60+8 + 200+30+1
Or you could just plain and simple add 368+231

Beck finished 30% of his homework in 12 minutes. How many minutes will it take him to complete all of his homework?
arlik [135]
The correct answer is choice D. If you put choice D into words, it is saying 30% (0.3) of the total is 12 minutes.

To solve this, use inverse operations.

0.3m = 12
0.3       0.3
m = 40

It will take Beck 40 minutes.

A lake contains 4 distinct types of fish. Suppose that each fish caught is equally likely to be any one of these types. Let Y de
strojnjashka [21]

Answer:

a) P(μ-k*σ≤ Y ≤ μ+k*σ ) ≥ 0.90

a= μ-3.16*σ , b= μ+3.16*σ

b) P(Y≥ μ+3*σ ) ≥ 0.90

b= μ+3*σ

Step-by-step explanation:

from Chebyshev's inequality for Y

P(| Y - μ|≤ k*σ ) ≥ 1-1/k²

where

Y = the number of fish that need be caught to obtain at least one of each type

μ = expected value of Y

σ = standard deviation of Y

P(| Y - μ|≤ k*σ ) = probability that Y is within k standard deviations from the mean

k= parameter

thus for

P(| Y - μ|≤ k*σ ) ≥ 1-1/k²

P{a≤Y≤b} ≥ 0.90 →  1-1/k² = 0.90 → k = 3.16

then

P(μ-k*σ≤ Y ≤ μ+k*σ ) ≥ 0.90

using one-sided Chebyshev inequality (Cantelli's inequality)

P(Y- μ≥ λ) ≥ 1- σ²/(σ²+λ²)

P{Y≥b} ≥ 0.90  →  1- σ²/(σ²+λ²)=  1- 1/(1+(λ/σ)²)=0.90 → 3= λ/σ → λ= 3*σ

then for

P(Y≥ μ+3*σ ) ≥ 0.90

The regular hexagon has a radius of 4 in. What is the approximate area of the hexagon? 24 in.2 42 in.2 48 in.2 84 in.2
masha68 [24]
The central angle of a hexagon is 60°. Dividing it by two will give us 30°. The side opposite to 30° is 2 inches, multiplied by 2 is 4 inches. Thus, each side of the hexagon is 4 inches. Also, the apothem is 2sqrt(3). The area of the figure is calculated through the equation,
                                           A = 0.5aP
where a is apothem and P is perimeter
Substituting,
                                           A = 0.5(2sqrt3)(4 x 6) = 24sqrt3
The answer is approximately 41.57 in².
