Let's let the variable x represent the unknown amount that the oldest son spent on candy.

First we'll add up all our costs, and then set the equation equal to 76, because the total was $76.

x (candy) + 35 (tickets) + 25 (popcorn) + 10 (drinks) = 76 (total)

Now let's simplify this, by adding together our known prices.

35 + 25 + 10 = 70.

So now we've got the equation x + 70 = 76.
Now we just solve for x in this simple one-step equation.

x + 70 = 76

All you do is subtract 70 from both sides to get rid of the '+ 70'

x + 70 = 76
    - 70   -70

x = 6.

And that's our solution. This means that the oldest son spent $6 on candy.
We can check this by substituting our solution back into our equation.
We do this by replacing any variable x with our solution, 6.

x + 70 = 76
(6) + 70 = 76
76 = 76

Seem right? Yep!

The oldest son spent $6 on candy, final answer.

Hope this helps!!

Find the area of the shape below.
lawyer [7]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  164π cm²

Step-by-step explanation:

The area of a circle is given by the formula ...

  A = πr²

The radius (r) is half the diameter (d), so the area of a semicircle in terms of its diameter is ...

  1/2A = (1/2)(π)(d/2)² = (π/8)d²

The given shape is the combination of three (3) semicircles. The smallest has a diameter of 6 cm; the middle-sized one has a diameter of (32 cm -6 cm -8 cm) = 18 cm. The largest has a diameter of 32 cm.

The total area will be ...

  area of largest + area of middle-size - area of smallest

  = (π/8)(32² +18² -6²) = (π/8)(1312) . . . . cm²

The area of the shape is 164π cm².

harkovskaia [24]

Answer:

Jasmine only.

Jasmine and Kanti only.

No one.

Step-by-step explanation:

There is no possible way to invite all three friends.

Since both Samir and Kanti will not attend if someone else is not invited, Jasmine is the only friend that can be invited on her own:

One person: Jasmine.

When inviting two people, if Jasmine is invited, Samir can't be invited and Kanti will only attend if Jasmine also does. Therefore, Jasmine and Kanti can go together and there is no way Kanti can be invited.

Two people: Jasmine and Kanti.

Furthermore, if nobody is invited, no one will be unhappy.
