Oscar and Kim have $22.00 each to spend at a book fair, where all students receive a 30% discount. They both want to purchase a

copy of the same book, which normally sells for $28.50 plus 10% sales tax. To check if he has enough to purchase the book, Oscar takes 30% of $28.50 and subtracts that amount from the normal price. He takes 10% of the discounted selling price and adds it back to find the purchase amount. Kim takes 70% of the normal purchase price and then computes 110% of the reduced price. Is Oscar correct? Is Kim correct? Do they have enough money to purchase the book? Explain your answer using complete sentences, and show your work.

They are both correct in their computation

(28.5-28.5(.3))+.1(28.5-28.5(.3))=$21.945

28.5(.7)(1.1)=$21.945

And since they each have $22 to spend, they have enough to purchase the book.

Oscar : 0.30(28.50) = 8.55....28.50 - 8.55 = 19.95...0.10(19.95) = 2....19.95 + 2 = 21.95

Kim : 0.7(28.5) = 19.95....1.10(19.95) = 21.95

They are both correct. They both have enough money to buy the book.
They each just did it a little different way. Kim, instead of taking 30% off, and subtracting it from the original price, she multiplied it by 70%...because taking 30% off is just like paying 70%....and instead of taking 10% of the discount price and adding it back to the discount price, she multiplied it by 110%....it is exactly the same thing

If y varies directly as x, and y is 400 when x is r and y is r when x is 4, what is the numeric constant of variation in this
otez555 [7]

Answer:

10

Step-by-step explanation:

If there is a direct relation between two variables x and y then it can be represented as

y = kx ,

where y is dependent variable

x is  independent variable

k is constant of variation

_____________________________

First condition

y = 400

x = r

using y = kx then relationship will be

400 = kr

finding k here

k = 400/r

Second condition

y = r

x = 4

using y = kx then relationship will be

r = 4k

finding k

k = r/4

since  in both condition equation is same

thus, value of k will also be same

thus,

400/r = r/4

=> 400*4 = r*r

=> 1600 = r^2

\sqrt{r^{2} }  = \sqrt{1600} \\r = 40

Thus, 40 is the value of r

k = r/4 = 40/4 = 10

Thus, constant of variation is 10 which is correct choice.

To cross validate

k = 400/r = 400/40 = 10

A baseball player has 39 hits in 134 times at bat. how many hits must he get in the next 46 times at bat to finish the year with
faust18 [17]

Answer:

He must get 33 hits in his next 46 times at bat to finish the year with a .400 batting average

Step-by-step explanation:

The player has already batted 134 times and will still bat 46 times. So in the end of the year, he is going to have 134 + 46 = 180 at bats.

How many hits does he need to have to hit .400?

This is 40% of 180, which is 0.4*180 = 72.

He has already 39 hits, so in his next 46 at bats, he will need 72 - 39 = 33 hits.

The high temperatures in Montana are recorded for a week. High Temperatures Sunday 46°F Monday 52°F Tuesday 51°F Wednesday 54°F
Elan Coil [88]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

to get the mean you need to add up all the numbers

46+52+51+54+49+51+61=364

then divide that sum by the amount of numbers you have

364 divided by 7=52

so the mean you have is 52 degrees

"Suppose that Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are playing a tennis match in which the first player to win three sets wins the m
o-na [289]

Answer: it could end in 20 different ways.

Step-by-step explanation:

This match could be

3x0 D or F

3x1 D or F

3x2 D or F

For 3x0

We have 2 options: DDD or FFF

2.P₁ = 2.1 = 2

For 3x1

We have 6 options

DFDD         FDFF

DDFD         FFDF

FDDD         DFFF

2.3.1 = 6

For 3x2

we have 12 options:

DFDFD          FDFDF

DDFFD          FFDDF

DFFDD          FDDFF

FFDDD          DDFFF

FDFDD          DFDFF

FDDFD          DFFDF

2.3.2 = 12

In total we could have 20 outcomes.
