Samara is adjusting a satellite because she finds it is not focusing the incoming radio waves perfectly. The shape of her satell

ite can be modeled by y2=2(x+6), where x and y are modeled in inches. She realizes that the static is a result of the feed antenna shifting slightly off the focus point. What is the focus point of the satellite?

This is a parabola by the looks of the equation and the fact that it's a satellite dish. The vertex of the equation is (-6,0) and the focus is 2/4, 1/2. 1/2 plus -6 is -5.5. the focus is (-5.5,0).

This answer is only true if the actual equation is y^2 not 2y

An employee who earned $550 a week working 35 hours had her pay increased by 5 percent. Later, her hours were reduced to 30 per
Taya2010 [7]

Answer:

  $495

Step-by-step explanation:

After the 5% raise, her weekly pay was ...

  $550 × 1.05 = $577.50

If she works 35 hours for that pay, her hourly rate is

  $577.50/35 = $16.50

Then, working 30 hours, her weekly pay will be ...

  30 × $16.50 = $495.00

a dance club spent $922 on 40 items.The item include some hats and pairs of shoes.Each hat cost $19 and each pair of shoes cost
Sergio039 [100]

1. H+S=40

2. 19H+25S=922

From 1,

19H+19S=760

Subtract this from 2 to eliminate H,

19H+25S-19H-19S=922-760

6S=162

Solve for S, then use either equation to solve for H.

Doss [256]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let X be the  number of tickets issued by a meter reader for parking-meterviolations can be modeled by a Poisson process with a rateparameter of five per hour.

X is Poisson with parameter =5per hour

a) the probabilitythat exactly three tickets are given out during a particular hour

=P(X=3)=0.14037

b)  the probabilitythat at least three tickets are given out during a particularhour

=P(X\geq 3) =0.87534

c) tickets we expect to be given during a 45-min period

=5(\frac{3}{4} )\\= 3.75

Note: Poisson distribution is

P(X=k) = \frac{e^{-k} 5^k}{l!}
