Answer:

The answers to the question: Valley of salt tears, and "dark, deep and foggy", are two images used to establish a mood of regret, anguish and lamentation.

Explanation:

These two concepts, that of valley of salt tears, and dark, deep and foggy, appear on Dante´s "Inferno", in book IV. Dante, awakens to find himself in the place called Limbo, a place where he says the souls of good pagans and unbaptized children go. As Dante looks down, he sees that he is posed at the very edge of Limbo, but he cannot make out much, except that he describes the place as the "valley of salty tears" and that he cannot see anything at the bottom because it is all clouded, "dark, deep and foggy". He also says that it is the place where the constant lamentations, anguish and regret come with "unending crying". Upon reading further, you can see that the mood given by these two images is one of regret, of pain, of sadness and anguish on the part of those who inhabit the place, so much so that Dante´s own guide shows himself affected by the emotions generated by the place, and its inhabitants.

Answer:

Each island was founded by a colonizer, perhaps from a mainland, and divided up ecological niche space as they diversified into the four species present.

In the given context, four species of the lizards in the four Caribbean Island are descended from the four separate common ancestor of four different species.

Thus it can be concluded that each of the four Caribbean Island was founded by a lizard species colonized to that area or might have come from the main land and played an important role in the ecological niche as they varied and expand into present four species.

Hence the answer is ---
