First step is set the lines equal to each other:

  • x + 3 + 8x - 9 = 7x + 4

Now we combine like terms:

Then we subtract 7x from both sides:

  • 2x - 6 = 4

Add 6 to both sides:

  • 2x = 10

Lastly we divide both sides by 2:
