Joyce has a mixture of oil and powdered sugar. The tiny pieces of sugar do not mix evenly with the oil and they do not settle to

the bottom. They stay in the oil making it look cloudy. Joyce adds water to the container, closes the lid, and shakes it. After she lets it settle, the sugar is no longer in the oil. The oil forms a layer that floats on top of the water and looks clear. How did she separate the powdered sugar from the oil?

Sugar is not soluble in Oil so it coagulated when Joyce added sugar to oil. But sugar is soluble in water so when Joyce added water in the mixture of OIl and Sugar and then shaked it the sugar dissolved in the water.Leaving no traces behind.As Oil is hydrophobic it doesn't mix with water instead it floats on top.So by using the solubility of sugar in water Joyce separated sugar from oil

If a 60-g object has a volume of 30 cm3, what is its density? 2 g/cm3 0.5 cm3/g 1800 g * cm3 none of the above
jasenka [17]

Answer : The density of an object is, 2g/cm^3

Solution : Given,

Mass of an object = 60 g

Volume of an object = 30cm^3

Formula used :

\text{Density of an object}=\frac{\text{Mass of an object}}{\text{Volume of an object}}

Now put all the given values in this formula, we get the density of an object.

\text{Density of an object}=\frac{60g}{30cm^3}=2g/cm^3

Therefore, the density of an object is, 2g/cm^3

5. To keep your lunch cold at the beach, would you want a material
Leya [2.2K]

Answer:

Minimizes heat transfer

Explanation:

To keep my lunch from getting cold at the beach, a material the minimizes heat transfer will be the most desirable.

 • Such material should be modified to prevent had transfer by convection, conduction and radiation.
 • This kind of material is desirable because heat generally flows from a place of high amount to that of low amount.
 • Since the food will mostly have a temperature higher than the ambient one, it is expected that heat will flow away from the food to the environment.
 • This will make the food cold.
 • If such heat transfer is prevented, then, the food will remain hot.

How many moles are there in 3.612 X 10^24 molecules of phosgene (COCL2)
Ugo [173]

Answer:

Explanation:

No of molecules = 3.612*10(24)

Avogadro's number = 6.022*10(23)

no of moles = No of molecules/Avogadro's number

No of moles =3.612*10(24)/6.022*10(23)

No of moles = 6mol

Illustrate a model of a calcium atom including the number and position of protons neutrons and electrons in the atom
andrey2020 [161]

The model would look something like the image below.

There would be a central nucleus containing 20 protons and 20 neutrons.

Surrounding the nucleus would be four concentric rings (energy levels) containing 20 electrons.

Going out from the nucleus, the number of electrons in each ring would

be 2, 8, 8, 2.

Alveolar air (a mixture of nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide) has a total pressure of 0.998 atm. If the partial pressure of o
inn [45]

Answer:

The partial pressure of carbon dioxide is 22.8 mmHg

Explanation:

Dalton's Law is a gas law that relates the partial pressures of the gases in a mixture. This law says that the pressure of a gas mixture is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of all the gases present.

In this case:

Ptotal=Pnitrogen + Poxygen + Pcarbondioxide

You know that:

 • Ptotal= 0.998 atm
 • Pnitrogen= 0.770 atm
 • Poxygen= 0.198 atm
 • Pcarbondioxide= ?

Replacing:

0.998 atm=0.770 atm + 0.198 atm + Pcarbondioxide

Solving:

Pcarbondioxide= 0.998 atm - 0.770 atm - 0.198 atm

Pcarbondioxide= 0.03 atm

Now you apply the following rule of three: if 1 atm equals 760 mmHg, 0.03 atm how many mmHg equals?

Pcarbondioxide=\frac{0.03 atm*760 mmHg}{1 atm}

Pcarbondioxide= 22.8 mmHg

The partial pressure of carbon dioxide is 22.8 mmHg
