I think it would be Equiano's capture.  In my point of view, Equiano was young when he was captured by some of his tribesmen. He was hastily uprooted from his family and his land. He experienced how hard reality was. He traveled across the sea with people who treat him lowly. He grew up learning how to deal suffering and persecution from his captors.
