WILL MAKE BRAINLIEST!!! A Ferris wheel has a diameter of 220 feet and the center of the wheel is 125 feet above the ground. The

wheel makes a complete turn every 2 minutes. Write a cosine function to express the height h (in feet) of a passenger on the wheel as a function of time t (in minutes) ), given that the passenger is at the lowest point on the wheel when t=0

Since the radius of a circle is half its diameter, the radius of our Ferris wheel is r= \frac{220}{2} =110ft

Next, we are going to convert from revolutions per minute to degrees per second.
We know that t<span>he wheel makes a complete turn every 2 minutes, so it makes a complete turn in 120 seconds. Since there are 360° in a complete turn, we can set up our conversion factor:
</span>\frac{1*360}{120}=3 degrees per second
<span>
Now, lets find the height:
</span>We know that <span>the passenger is at the lowest point on the wheel when t=0; since the wheel is 125 feet above the ground, at t=0 h=125. To find t at the top, we are going to take advantage of the fact that the wheel will turn 180° from the lowest point to the top and that it turns 3° every second:
</span>t= \frac{180}{3}
t=60
Notice that the height at the top is the diameter of the wheel plus the height above the ground, so h=220+125=345.

To model the situation we are going to use the cosine function, but notice that cos (\alpha) is 1 when \alpha =0 and -1 wen \alpha =180. Since we want the opposite, we are going to use negative cosine.
Notice that we want \alpha =180 when t=60, so we are going to use -cos(3t). Next, we are going to multiply our cosine by the radius of our wheel: -110cos(3t), and last but not least we are going to add the sum of the radius of the wheel plus the height above the ground:
h=110+125-110cos(3t)
h=225-110cos(3t)

Now that we have our height function lets check if everything is working:
<span>the passenger is at the lowest point at t=0; we also know that the lowest point is 125 feet above the ground, so lets evaluate our function at t=0:
</span>h=225-110cos(3t)
h=225-110cos(3*0)
h=125 feet
So far so good.
We also know that at t=60, our passenger is 345 feet above the ground, so lets evaluate our function at t=60 and check if coincides:
h=225-110cos(3t)
h=225-110cos(3*60)
h=225-110cos(180)
h=345feet

We can conclude that cosine function that express the height h (in feet) of a passenger on the wheel as a function of time t (in minutes) ) is: h=225-110cos(3t)

Tpy6a [65]

Answer:

The total length of the trip was 400 miles.

Step-by-step explanation:

He fell asleep at 44% through the trip, they already had traveled 176 miles.

.44x = 176 ⇒

176 ÷ .44 ⇒

x = 400

Nathan flew 3,547 miles from Canada to California during the first part of his trip. He flew 2,567 miles from California to Hawa
AURORKA [14]

Difference in the number of miles Nathan flew between the first and second parts of his trip is 980 miles

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Given that Nathan flew 3,547 miles from Canada to California during the first part of his trip

He flew 2,567 miles from California to Hawaii during the second part of his trip

Therefore,

first part of his trip = 3547 miles

second part of his trip = 2567 miles

Difference in the number of miles Nathan flew between the first and second parts of his trip is given as:

difference = first part of his trip - second part of his trip

difference = 3547 - 2567 = 980

Therefore, the difference in number is 980 miles

Two boats leave port at noon. Boat 1 sails due east at 12 knots. Boat 2 sails due south at 8 knots. At 2 pm the wind diminishes
Ivan

Answer:

14.86 knots.

Step-by-step explanation:

<em>Given that:</em>

The boats leave the port at noon.

Speed of boat 1 = 12 knots due east

Speed of boat 2 = 8 knots due south

At 2 pm:

Distance traveled by boat 1 = 24 units due east

Distance traveled by boat 2 = 16 units due south

Now, speed of boat 1 changes to 9 knots:

At 3 pm:

Distance traveled by boat 1 = 24 + 9= 33 units due east

Distance traveled by boat 2 = 16+8 = 24 units due south

Now, speed of boat 1 changes to 8+7 = 15 knots

At 5 pm:

Distance traveled by boat 1 = 33 + 2\times 9= 51 units due east

Distance traveled by boat 2 = 24 + 2 \times 15 = 54 units due south

Now, the situation of distance traveled can be seen by the attached right angled \triangle AOB.

O is the port and A is the location of boat 1

B is the location of boat 2.

Using pythagorean theorem:

\text{Hypotenuse}^{2} = \text{Base}^{2} + \text{Perpendicular}^{2}\\\Rightarrow AB^{2} = OA^{2} + OB^{2}\\\Rightarrow AB^{2} = 51^{2} + 54^{2}\\\Rightarrow AB^{2} = 2601+ 2916 = 5517\\\Rightarrow AB = 74.28\ units

so, the total distance between the two boats is 74.28 units.

Change in distance per hour = \dfrac{Total\ distance}{Total\ time}

\Rightarrow \dfrac{74.28}{5} = 14.86\ knots
