How does the use of the word transformed support the claim in this passage?
Lera25 [3.4K]

From the 1750s on, sugar transformed how Europeans ate. Chefs who served the wealthy began to divide meals up. Where sugar had previously been used either as a decoration (as in the wedding feast) or as a spice to flavor all courses, now it was removed from recipes for meat, fish, and vegetables and given its own place—in desserts. Dessert as the extremely sweet end to the meal was invented because so much sugar was available. But the wealthy were not the only ones whose meals were changing. Sugar became a food, a necessity, and the foundation of the diet for England's poorest workers.

It indicates that the addition of sugar was a significant change to Europeans' diets.

Answer: Option D.

Explanation:

In the paragraph that has been shown above, the way the Europeans ate in the 1750s and the change in their way of eating has been talked about. It shows that there has been addition of sugar in their diet.

Earlier sugar was only used as a way of decoration or as a spice to flavor up all the courses. But later the intake of sugar increased a lot in the diet of the Europeans and it became a necessity, it became a food.

Read the excerpt below and answer the question. Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box,
Sonbull [250]

Answer:

Backstory.

Explanation:

The references to stones in the story "The Lottery" creates the backstory of the whole story. The ritual of the lottery wherein a member of a particular household is stoned to death is like an annual sport stemming from Mr. Joe Summer's free time. Even though the villagers no longer remember the relevance of the rituals associated with the 'lottery', they still remember to use stones for the killings. And it was with stones that they used to hurl at Tessie Hutchinson, the unlucky victim of the lottery draw which her own husband had marked the slip the previous night.

Read the following passage from Act I, scene ii of The Tempest, in which Prospero explains to Miranda how Antonio usurped him.
Iteru [2.4K]

"The Tempest" is considered a revenge tragedy. The usurpation of Prospero's dukedom from Antonio, his own beloved brother, is an indication of his distemper. Words that can create a tone of reproach and melancholy for the past are: "evil nature", falsehood", "perfidious" which are attributed to the dishonest brother. Miranda appears to live in a dream place where corruption and malevolence do not exist. However, Prospero's negative attitue towards Antonio expresses that there is evil in human nature and it can even come from close acquaintances and family.

Describe the incident with the vanilla ice cream. Why was it so upsetting for Nilda?
lyudmila [28]

Explanation:

As Sophie informed her that they'll get ice cream today, then Nilda was quite enthusiastic and assured Sophie how she would enjoy vanilla ice cream, Nilda was thinking that they'll get some healthy food today. They saw it put in bins, and Nilda got much more interested. Nilda was delighted to reveal a strawberry ice cream at the flat, and sat down to taste it. It sounded strange from ice cream with vanilla.

It was doughy, sticky and slippery as she placed it in her teeth. She spit it out, remembering that it was vegetable oil, not vanilla ice cream. Nilda was really irritated.
