The volume equation of a cylinder is πr^2 * h

-> If we plug in the equation, it would be:

π(1)^2*4

= π*4

= 4π

So the volume is 4π or about 12.67.

I know a barrel is cylindrical so that I may measure the volume of the barrel with the formula for a cylinder. 

The volume of a cylinder: V= pi(r)^2(h)

To solve, I will plug in the known values given: 

V= pi(1)^2(4)
V= 12.5663706144
Rounded to the nearest hundredth: 12.57

Thus, the volume of the barrel is about 12.57.

Clearly, from the value of the volume, the barrel will hold about 12.57 gallons of water, or, rounded to the nearest whole, 13 gallons.
