to find t he x intercepts factor the quadratic and set them = to 0

x^2 +6x+5 = 0

(x+5) (x+1)=0

x+5 = 0   x+1=0

x=-5   x=-1

the x intercepts are -5, x=-1

Hey there!!

We have:

... f(x) = x² + 6x + 5

<em>Remember: f(x) is also called as 'y'. </em>

Hence,

... y = x² + 6x + 5

Now, let's split the middle terms in such a way that, the terms we split 6x into has something common in x² and 5 after grouping.

Let's split 6x with taking the factors of 5.

... 5 = 5 × 1

Hence,

... y = x² + x + 5x + 5

Now taking the common terms,

... y = x(x+1) + 5(x+1)

... y = (x+5)(x+1)

Hence, we got two equations.

... y = x+5 and y = x+1

We have the slope-intercept form:

... y = mx + b

'b' is the y-intercept.

... y-intercept = ( 0,y)

and

... x-intercept = ( x,0 )

... y =x+5

... 0 = x + 5

... -5 = x

and

... y = x+1

... 0 = x+1

... -1 = x

<em>Hence, the x-intercepts are ( 0,-5 ) and ( 0,-1 ) </em>

Hope my answer helps!

In △ABC, m∠A=15 °, a=10 , and b=11 . Find c to the nearest tenth.
pshichka [43]

Answer:

The answer is:

\bold{c\approx 20.2\ units}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

In △ABC:

m∠A=15°

a=10 and

b=11

To find:

c = ?

Solution:

We can use cosine rule here to find the value of third side c.

Formula for cosine rule:

cos A = \dfrac{b^{2}+c^{2}-a^{2}}{2bc}

Where

a is the side opposite to \angle A

b is the side opposite to \angle B

c is the side opposite to \angle C

Putting all the values.

cos 15^\circ = \dfrac{11^{2}+c^{2}-10^{2}}{2\times 11 \times c}\\\Rightarrow 0.96 = \dfrac{121+c^{2}-100}{22c}\\\Rightarrow 0.96 \times 22c= 121+c^{2}-100\\\Rightarrow 21.25 c= 21+c^{2}\\\Rightarrow c^{2}-21.25c+21=0\\\\\text{solving the quadratic equation:}\\\\c = \dfrac{21.25+\sqrt{21.25^2-4 \times 1 \times 21}}{2}\\c = \dfrac{21.25+\sqrt{367.56}}{2}\\c = \dfrac{21.25+19.17}{2}\\c \approx 20.2\ units

The answer is:

\bold{c\approx 20.2\ units}

Lana is the oldest of four sisters. Her youngest sister is half her age. The other two sisters are twins $2$ years younger than
vagabundo [1.1K]
Let the youngest sister be n years
Lana will be 2n years, as her youngest sister is half her age
The age of the twins separately will be 2n-2 as they are 2 years younger than Lana
So, the equation looks like this:
n + 2n + 2(2n-2) = 45
Now solve for n:
3n + 4n - 4 = 45
7n - 4 = 45
7n = 49
n = 7
So the youngest sister is 7, Lana is 14 and the twins are 12. 14 + 12 + 12 + 7 =45

Rina8888 [55]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

1)The probability of success in each of the 58 identical engine tests is p=0.92

n = 58

mean, u = np = 58×0.92 = 53.36

2) The only value that would be considered usual for this distribution is 91. This is because it is the only value between the minimum and maximum value

3) n = 546

p = 17/100 = 0.17

Mean = np = 546×0.17= 92.82

4) n = 1035

p = 36/100 = 0.36

np = 1035 × 0.36 = 372.6

5) The probability of success is 0.2.

p = 0.2

q= 1-p = 1-0.2 = 0.8

n = 35

standard deviation =

√npq = √35×0.2×0.8 = 2.34

6) p = 0.25

q = 1-0.25 = 0.75

n = 5

Variance = npq = 5×0.25×0.75 = 0.9

7) n = 982

p = 0.431

q = 1 - p = 1 - 0.431 = 0.569

Variance = npq = 982×0.431×0.569= 240.8

8) n = 500

p = 84/100 = 0.84

q = 1-0.84 = 0.16

Standard deviation = √npq

Standard deviation = √500×0.84×0.16 = 8.2
