Answer:

Jessica's rate is 3 miles per hour.

Step-by-step explanation:

Jessica is walking home from a friend's house.

After 2 minutes she is 1.4 miles from the home and after 12 minutes she is 0.9 miles away fro her house.

Her rate will be = \frac{\text{Change in distance}}{\text{Change in time}}

= \frac{1.4-0.9}{12-2}

= \frac{0.5}{10}

= 0.05 miles per minute

Now we will convert timings from minutes to hour.

Or \frac{0.05}{\frac{1}{60}} = 0.05×60

= 3 miles per hour

let's say 12 min - 2 mins = 10 mins

and 1.4 mile - 0.9 miles = 0.5 miles

Jessica takes 10 mins to walk a distance of 0.5 miles

=> 10 mins*6 = 60 mins = 1 hour

=> 0.5 miles*6 = 3 miles

her rate is 3 miles per hour
