Answer:

(a) Work out put=692.83\frac{KJ}{Kg}

(b) Change in specific entropy=0.0044\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

Explanation:

Properties of steam at 1 MPa and 200°C

        h_1=2827.4\frac{KJ}{Kg},s_1=6.69\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

We know that if we know only one property in side the dome then we will find the other property by using steam property table.

Given that dryness or quality of steam at the exit of turbine is 0.83 and temperature T=40°C.So from steam table we can find pressure corresponding to saturation temperature 40°C.

Properties of saturated steam at 40°C

      h_f= 167.5\frac{KJ}{Kg} ,h_g= 2537.4\frac{KJ}{Kg}

 s_f= 0.57\frac{KJ}{Kg-K} ,s_g= 8.25\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

So the enthalpy of steam at the exit of turbine

h_2=h_f+x(h_g-h_f)\frac{KJ}{Kg}

h_2=167.5+0.83(2537.4-167.5)\frac{KJ}{Kg}

h_2=2134.57\frac{KJ}{Kg}

s_2=s_f+x(s_g-s_f)\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

s_2=0.57+0.83(8.25-0.57)\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

s_2=6.6944\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

(a)

Work out put =h_1-h_2

                      =2827.4-2134.57 \frac{KJ}{Kg}

Work out put =692.83 \frac{KJ}{Kg}

(b) Change in specific entropy

     s_2-s_1=6.6944-6.69\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

Change in specific entropy =0.0044\frac{KJ}{Kg-K}

An electrical utility delivers 6.25E10 kWh of power to its customers in a year. What is the average power required during the ye
Sindrei [870]

Answer:

The overall Utility delivered to customers in a year 'U' = 6.25 X 10¹⁰Kwh

However, the average power P, required for a year, t  = ? Kw

Expressing their relationship, we will have

             U = P x t

Given t = 1 year = 24 x 365 hours (assume a year operation is 365 days)

          t = 8760 hours

P = \frac{62500000000}{8760}

P = 7134.7Kw

Hence, the average power required during the year is 7,135Kw

Now to calculate the energy used by the power plant in a year (in quads)?

Recall, Efficiency, η = Power Output/Power Input (100)

so, we have

η = P₀/P₁, given

0.45 = \frac{7134.7Kw}{P₁}

P₁ = 15,855Kw

the total energy E₁ used in a year = 15,855x24x365 = 138.89MJoules

So to convert this to quads, Note;

1 quads of energy = 10¹⁵ Joules

The total energy used is 0.000000139 quads

Now to find the cubic feet of natural gas required to generate this power?

Note: 0.29Kwh of Power generated  = 1 cubic feet of natural gas used

Since, the power plant generated = 62500000000Kwh

The cubic feet of natural gas used = \frac{62500000000}{0.29}

Hence, 2.155x10²⁰cubic feet of N.gas was used to generate this much power.

Water flows at a rate of 10 gallons per minute in a new horizontal 0.75?in. diameter galvanized iron pipe. Determine the pressur
ruslelena [56]

Answer:

\frac{\delta p }{l} = 30.4 lb/ft^3

Explanation:

Given data:

flow rate = 10 gallon per  minute = 0.0223 ft^3/sec

diameter = 0.75 inch

we know discharge is given as

Q =  VA

solve for velocity V = \frac{Q}{A}[/tex]

V = \frac{0.223}{\frac{\pi}{4} \frac{0.75}{12}}

V = 7.27 ft/sec

we know that Reynold number

Re = \frac{VD}{\nu}

Re = \frac{7.27 \times \frac{0.75}{12}}{1.21\times 10^{-5}}

Re = 3.76 \times 10^4

calculate the \frac{\epsilon }{D}ratio to determine the fanning friction f

\frac{\epsilon }{D} = \frac{0.0005}{\frac{0.75}{12}} = 0.008

from moody diagram f value corresonding to Re and \frac{\epsilon }{D}is 0.037

for horizontal pipe

\delta p = \frac{f l \rho v^2}{2D}

\frac{\delta p }{l} = \frac{1 \times 0.037 \times 1.94 \times 7.27}{\frac{0.75}{12}}

where 1.94 slug/ft^3is density of  water

\frac{\delta p }{l} = 30.4 lb/ft^3

3.24 Program: Drawing a half arrow (Java) This program outputs a downwards facing arrow composed of a rectangle and a right tria
eimsori [14]

Answer:

Here is the JAVA program:

import java.util.Scanner; // to get input from user

public class DrawHalfArrow{ // start of the class half arrow

public static void main(String[] args) { // starts of main() function body

    Scanner scnr = new Scanner(System.in); //reads input

int arrowBaseHeight = 0; // stores the height of arrow base

int arrowBaseWidth  = 0; // holds width of arrow base

int arrowHeadWidth = 0; // contains the width of arrow head

// prompts the user to enter arrow base height, width and arrow head width

System.out.println("Enter arrow base height: ");

arrowBaseHeight = scnr.nextInt(); // scans and reads the input as int

System.out.println("Enter arrow base width: ");

arrowBaseWidth = scnr.nextInt();

/* while loop to continue asking user for an arrow head width until the value entered is greater than the value of arrow base width */

while (arrowHeadWidth <= arrowBaseWidth) {

    System.out.println("Enter arrow head width: ");

    arrowHeadWidth = scnr.nextInt(); }

//start of the nested loop

//outer loop iterates a number of times equal to the height of the arrow base

 for (int i = 0; i < arrowBaseHeight; i++) {

//inner loop prints the stars asterisks

      for (int j = 0; j <arrowBaseWidth; j++) {

          System.out.print("*");        } //displays stars

          System.out.println();          }

//temporary variable to hold arrowhead width value

int k = arrowHeadWidth;

//outer loop to iterate no of times equal to the height of the arrow head

for (int i = 1; i <= arrowHeadWidth; i++)

{     for(int j = k; j > 0; j--)     {//inner loop to print stars

       System.out.print("*");    } //displays stars

   k = k - 1;

   System.out.println(); } } } // continues to add more asterisks for new line

Explanation:

The program asks to enter the height of the arrow base, width of the arrow base and the width of arrow head. When asking to enter the width of the arrow head, a condition is checked that the arrow head width arrowHeadWidth should be less than or equal to width of arrow base arrowBaseWidth. The while loop keeps iterating until the user enters the arrow head width larger than the value of arrow base width.

The loop is used to output an arrow base of height arrowBaseHeight. So point (1) is satisfied.

The nested loop is being used which as a whole outputs an arrow base of width arrowBaseWidth. The inner loop draws the stars and forms the base width of the arrow, and the outer loop iterates a number of times equal to the height of the arrow. So (2) is satisfied.

A temporary variable k is used to hold the original value of arrowHeadWidth so that it keeps safe when modification is done.

The last nested loop is used to output an arrow head of width arrowHeadWidth. The inner loop forms the arrow head and prints the stars needed to form an arrow head. So (3) is satisfied.

The value of temporary variable k is decreased by 1 so the next time it enters  the nested for loop it will be one asterisk lesser.

The screenshot of output is attached.
