Read the passage adapted from Aesop’s Fables. What is the theme of the story? The Father and His Sons In a family there were fou

r sons who were constantly quarreling among themselves. The father was tired of seeing them quarrel, and when he failed to sort out their disputes, he decided to teach them a lesson. One day, he asked his sons to bring him a bundle of sticks. When they had done so, he placed the bundle into the hands of each of them in succession and ordered them to break it into pieces. They tried with all their strength and were not able to do it. The father next opened the bundle, took the sticks separately, one by one, and again put them into his sons' hands. The sons broke the sticks easily. He then addressed them in these words: "My sons, if you are of one mind, and unite to assist each other, you will be as this bundle, uninjured by all the attempts of your enemies. But if you are divided among yourselves, you will be broken as easily as these sticks.” A. Strength comes from being in agreement. B. Honesty is always the best policy. C. Appearances can be misleading. D. Too many cooks spoil the broth.

Arada [10]

Answer:

Here Equiano describes the emotions he is feeling after finding out he is to be freed from his slavery. He feels a mix of emotions that vary wildly, and Equiano demonstrates how dramatic and revolutionary an unprecedented experience might feel. Because Equiano is telling his story in the first person, the events of the story have a more personal and intimate effect than if they were told through the lens of an outside narrator.
