A community pool offers two types of memeberships: monthly and annual memberships. At the beginning of the year, the ratio of mo

nthly to annual memeberships was 10:3. However, the pool offered an incentive to have members move to the annual memebership. After the incentive, the ratio was 5:8. If there were 50 monthly members after the incentive then how many monthly members were there before?

Answer:

The number of monthly memberships before the incentive was 100

Step-by-step explanation:

Remember that

The total memberships after the incentive is equal to the total memberships before the incentive

step 1

Find out the annual memberships after the incentive

Let

x -----> monthly memberships after the incentive

y -----> annual memberships after the incentive

we know that

\frac{x}{y}=\frac{5}{8}

y=\frac{8}{5}x -----> equation A

x=50

substitute the value of x in equation A

y=\frac{8}{5}(50)

y=80

step 2

Find out the total memberships after the incentive

x+y=50+80=130

step 3

Find out the monthly members before the incentive

Let

x -----> monthly memberships before the incentive

y -----> annual memberships before the incentive

we know that

\frac{x}{y}=\frac{10}{3}

y=\frac{3}{10}x -----> equation A

x+y=130 -----> equation B

substitute equation A in equation B and solve for x

x+\frac{3}{10}x=130

\frac{13}{10}x=130

x=130(10)/13\\x=100

therefore

The number of monthly memberships before the incentive was 100

The life of a manufacturer's compact fluorescent light bulbs is normal, with mean 12,000 hours and standard deviation 2,000 hour
ikadub [295]
Mean = 12000
Standard Deviation = 2000

We have to find how many standard deviations is 14,500 away from the mean.
This can be achieved by calculating the z-score

Z-score tells us how many standard deviations above or below is a sample value from the mean. A positive z value shows, sample value is above the mean.

z score can be calculated as = (Sample Value - Mean )/Standard Deviation)
So,
Z-score = \frac{14500-12000}{2000} =1.25

This means, 14,500 is 1.25 standard deviations above the mean value 12,000.

Fofino [41]
An exercise ball, also known as a yoga ball, is a ball constructed of soft elastic with a diameter of approximately 35 to 85 centimeters (14 to 34 inches) and filled with air. The air pressure is changed by removing a valve stem and either filling with air or letting the ball deflate. It is most often used in physical therapy, athletic training and exercise. It can also be used for weight training. The ball, while often referred to as a Swiss ball, is also known by a number of different names, including balance ball, birth ball, body ball, ball, fitness ball, gym ball, gymnastic ball, physio ball, pilates ball, naval mine, Pezzi ball, stability ball, Swedish ball, or therapy ball.

You and a friend have a hula hoop competition. you win 3 out of every 7 trials. your friend wins 5 more trials than you. how man
Ivenika [448]

Answer:

Total number of trials is 35.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Me and my friend have a hula hoop competition. I win 3 out of every 7 trials. My friend wins 5 more trials than me.

To find : How many trials are in the competition?

Solution :

Probability of my winning is 3 out of 7 trials =\frac{3}{7}

and probability of my friend's winning is  =1-\frac{3}{7}=\frac{4}{7}

Let there be n numbers of trials.

Therefore, my score after n trials =\frac{3n}{7}

and my friend's score after n trials   =\frac{4n}{7}

Now, the number of trials my friend won more than me is

\frac{4n}{7}-\frac{3n}{7}=\frac{n}{7}

We know, that my friend won 5 more trials than me so comparing the actual and given we get,

\frac{n}{7}=5\\n=7\times5=35

Therefore, total number of trials is 35.

We can also verify our answer by placing value of n,

After 35 trials I will win \frac{3\times 35}{7}=15 trials

and my friend will win \frac{4\times 35}{7}=20  trials.

Hence, my friend won 5 more trials than me.
