A group of scientists studying vegetation in a mountain range observe that a certain flowering plant grows taller at lower eleva

tions and shorter at higher elevations. Assuming the two populations of plants are genetically similar, those height variations are most likely due to developmental flexibility that allows the plants to assume tall or short growth forms. (a) Identify THREE biotic or abiotic factors that could differ at high and low elevations and cause the difference in plant height. (b) Using one of the factors listed in part (a) as an independent variable, write a hypothesis that proposes how this variable could cause the difference in plant height at high and low elevations. (c) You are given seeds for this species of plant. Design a procedure for a controlled experiment to test your hypothesis. (d) Describe the results that would support your proposed hypothesis, and the results that would refute your hypothesis.

Well, first of all, the question asks us to to list three different factors that could lead to this variation.

The first one is pressure, so, what happens is that, when the pressure changes with the height change, these plants develop in different ways. The second one is the oxygen, as we know, oxygen in higher elevations is less than in ocean elevation for example, so this can be a reason for this variation. The last one is the quantity of organic material on the soil, this can influence directly on the development of this population.

With that said, we need to write a hypothesis for one of these factors, let's choose the organic material because it's easier and cheaper to test. For that, the hypothesis is that, with less organic material available on the ground, the plant will grow smaller than on a normal soil. To test that, we need to grab samples of this flowering plant and put it at the same conditions as on the mountain, that is a possibility on a good lab, so after that, we'll change the quantity of organic material on some samples, to check if my hypothesis is right or not.

The positive results are that this is the reason why the plants grow smaller, so, with less organic material, the plants won't develop in the same way as it would happen with enough organic material. The negative results are that this is not the reason why these variations exist, so we need to test another factor to check why this variation is happening.

Elan Coil [88]

Answer:

C) Sprout every year, year after year

Explanation:

A perennial plant or simply perennial is a plant that lives more than two years. Some sources cite perennial plants being plants that live more than three years. The term is often used to differentiate a plant from shorter-lived annuals and biennials.

Ede4ka [16]
The teacher would be well advised to help students encode information about the cell using both visual and verbal forms. This is because, multiple forms of encoding increases the probability of easy retrieval. Encoding in this case involves converting the names of the cell organelles to forms that can easily be remembered.

A researcher incubates a cell with radiolabeled amino acids. These amino acids are incorporated into the proteins as they are sy
Nonamiya [84]

Answer:

During an investigation, the addition of radiolabeled amino acids during protein synthesis occurs when the data shows high levels of radiation in protein synthesis, packaging and transport, which is equivalent to saying that radioactivity levels would first increase in the rough endoplasmic reticulum, followed by the Golgi and then the secretory vesicles (option C).

Explanation:

Protein synthesis in the cell is a process that involves the formation of polypeptide chains with the successive incorporation of amino acids.

RNA, which contains the sequence of triplets or codons that form the genetic code, is coupled to the ribosomes. Each codon or triplet consists of three nucleotides and encodes specific amino acids.

The RNA chain contains a specific nucleotide sequence and determines the assembly of amino acids to a polypeptide chain, by the action of ribosomes present in the rough endoplasmic reticulum.

In the Golgi apparatus, the proteins formed are conjugated, with the addition of carbohydrates or lipids, and arranged in secretory vesicles for transport.

In these steps, where the labeled amino acids are present, the levels of radioactivity would increase in the rough endoplasmic reticulum, the Golgi apparatus and the secretory vesicles.

Compare and contrast the two types of rainforests. Be sure to include information for both biotic and abiotic factors.
kolbaska11 [484]
The ecosystem of the forest is formed by the interaction between the abiotic and biotic factors. Abiotic factors are the non-living factors: water, temperature, light, cloud cover, and soil. Biotic factors oh the other hand are the living organisms. Tropical rain forests are hot, moist forests found near Earth's equator.
Temperate rain forests are cool and dry.
Abiotic factors in temperate rain forest:
1. Temperature:The climate in the temperate rain forests is mild.
2. Water: moist and lush.
3. Light: many clouds block the sunlight.
4. Soil: nutrition rich.
Biotic factors:beavers, raccoons , cougars and black bears.

Abiotic factors in tropical rain forest:
1. Temperature: hot, near the Earth's equator
2. Water:60 to 160 inches of precipitation

Biotic factors: the greatest biodiversity in the world,
