We have to work out the probability of getting a total of 12

The probability of an event is given as follows:

$=\frac{\text { favourable outcomes }}{\text { total possible outcomes }}$

Now, total outcomes = 6 for 1st die $\times$ 6 for 2nd die = 6 $\times$ 6 = 36.

Now, favourable outcomes = 1 [ since, we have to get a sum of 12, and only one case exists i.e. 6 + 6]

$\text { So, probability }=\frac{1}{36}$

Hence the probability of getting a total of 12 is $\frac{1}{36}$
