Answer:

Now in African region the Young women are especially at risk. As there are around 6,200 new infections each week among young people aged 15-24 occurring among this group.

In the sub-Saharan Africa, four in five new infections are among girls aged 15–19 years and young women aged 15–24 years are twice as likely to be living with HIV as men.

Almost one million die from HIV/AIDS each year – in some countries it’s the leading cause of death.

The HIV epidemic had a major impact on life expectancy across Sub-Saharan Africa, and life expectancy is only now back to pre-epidemic levels

Explanation:

Death occurrence in 20-40 age group:

Mostly people in there 20's and 40's are effected the most just because they are more active in different physical activities (sexual interactions etc). In Africa most of the population is under privileged and they work in the fields along with that they don't have any hygienic way to live. As people living the region don't get the chance to treat themselves well and control the virus. People don't have enough rest and medical facility to recover themselves well. As people in the that age gap are involved in going out of home to earn a bread for themselves, as they make more interaction with other individuals and have more chance

So there are two main graphs which has the required data to show the life expectancy of the affected people in Africa.

deff fn [24]
In order to calculate the distance between two alleles/genes that are found in the same chromosome, we need to know how often crossing-over happened (recombination frequency). We know from the text that white eyes were linked to miniature wings and that wild type eyes were linked to wild type wings, so any phenotype that's contrary to these parent combinations are a result of crossing-over. We know then that 230 flies + 240 flies were a result of such recombination. To calculate the recombination frequency we only need to divide these flies (total of recombinant flies) by the total of flies in the offspring and turn it into percentage.
\frac{230+240}{1000}=0.47
0.47*100%=47%

Suppose the size of a population of marmots is 300. According to genetic drift theory, what is the probability that a newly aris
arsen [322]

Answer:

E. 1/600

Explanation:

Hint:

The probability of fixation of a new neutral mutation is 1/(2N)

Given N as 300

= 1/(2×300)

=1/600

Therefore,

1/600 gives a sure fixation of one allele from the large population

Lasting genetic similarities make the two bears biological sister species, more closely related to one another than to any others. ... - Proper aseptic technique is crucial to ensuring growth of pure bacterial colonies. What is one experimental way you can test y
pogonyaev

Answer:

1. Aseptic techniques can be tested for their suitability by flaming the loop or by using agar slants.

2. Culturing equipment can be sterilized by three methods and these include wet heat, dry heat and filtration.

3. Inoculating needles are used for transferring bacterial culture to a soft agar medium. Inoculating loops are used to transfer culture into liquid medium or plate.

4. Growth plates or agar plates, Liquid media and Stab-tube media are used for growth of bacterial colonies.

Explanation:

1. A-septic techniques can be tested for their suitability by flaming the loop or by using agar slants. The loop is flamed to an extent that it becomes red-hot and is then cooled before picking up the organisms from the bacterial culture to be transferred. The hot loop is kept into the tube for a few seconds before removing the inoculum so that a bacterial aerosol is not produced.

2. Culturing equipment can be sterilized by three methods and these include wet heat, dry heat and filtration. Wet heat method is the most preferred method for sterilizing culture material using an autoclave. The material is heated using pressurized steam in an autoclave; which is an effective procedure for killing microbes, spores and viruses at 100◦C. However, it is interesting to know that pressurized steam has 7 times more heat than water at 100◦C which allows rapid delivery of heat and good penetration for sterilizing dense materials. High pressured steam hydrolyzes bacterial protein and removes any chances of contamination.

Dry heat method kill microbes by oxidation of cells thus requires more energy and is conducted at a higher temperature of 121◦C for efficient sterilization.

Filtration is another method of sterilizing liquids without heating and is performed by passing the solution through a filter with a pore diameter of 0.2 µm. The filter material used for sterilization can be heat-fused glass funnels or cellulose membranes. However, viruses can pass through these filters and filtration is not a preferred sterilization method.

3. Inoculating needles are used for transferring bacterial culture to a soft agar medium because needles supports appropriate spreading of culture and produces growth along the stab line also.

Inoculating loops are used to transfer culture into liquid medium or plate because it is free following and adequate spreading of culture is not required.

4.Growth plates or agar plates are the best bet when morphology of the species is to be identified or a bacterial colony needs to be isolated. In this scenario, growth plates allow the separation of a single clone and aids microscopic analysis.

In order to expand bacterial culture for the purpose of isolating DNA plasmid, liquid media is used. These liquid cultures allow easy inoculation of growth parameters such as antibiotics, and control of temperature and air pressure.

Stab tube media is prepared by filling test tube with soft agar and is specifically designed for growth of bacteria in low oxygen conditions. The stab tube allows immersion of inoculation loop into the agar depth where oxygen is extremely low and bacterial colonies can be produced without any shaking of media.

As discussed in Investigating Life 15.1, why might bioluminescence be an advantage for some species of dinoflagellates?
marysya [2.9K]

Answer:

Bioluminescence is the phenomenon which is seen in the dinoflagellates which is very common. It is caused due to chemical reactions that takes place inside the organism.

There is an influx of protons in the cell which drops the pH of the cell. It is the oxidation of luciferin which produces the glow.

This phenomenon acts as a shock for the predator because it is in the form of flash for less than 20 microseconds. This flash reduces the number of dinoflagellates which is being eaten by the predator.
