Answer:

laps swam by dan in 15 weeks = 2400 laps

he would be able to reach his objective of 2500 laps if he swims 160 laps each weeks for 16 weeks.

Step-by-step explanation:

total laps swam by Dan in n number of weeks will be = n×(total laps swan by dan in each week)

it is given that dan swims 160 laps each week

therefore total laps swam by him after 15 weeks will be = 15×160

                                                                                             = 2400 laps

if he swims 160 laps for an extra week he would have swam = 2400 + 160

                                                                                                     = 2560 laps

which is more  than his objective of 2500 laps

therefore dan would have swam an extra of 60 laps if he swims 160 laps each week for 16 weeks

therefore he would complete his quota of 2500 laps.

The sum of two numbers is 80. The larger number is four more than three times the smaller number. Find both numbers.
nexus9112 [7]

Let the smaller number = X

Then the larger number is 3x+4 ( four more than 3 times the smaller number)

The sum of both numbers = 80

so you have X + 3X+4 = 80

Simplify the left side:

4x+4 = 80

Subtract 4 from each side:

4x = 76

Divide both sides by 4:

X = 76/4

X = 19

The smallest number is 19

The largest number is 80 - 19 = 61 ( check: 3*19 = 57+4 = 61)

The two numbers are 19 and 61

Clara's suitcase weighs 58 1/4 pounds, but the airline's weight limit for suitcases is 50 pounds. How much weight does she need
Tanzania [10]

Answer

Find out the how much weight does she need to remove from her suitcase.

To prove

Let us assume that the weight Clara's need to remove from her suitcase be x.

As given

Clara's\ suitcase\ weighs\ 58\frac{1}{4}\ pounds,

Clara's\ suitcase\ weighs\ \frac{233}{4}\ pounds,

the airline's weight limit for suitcases is 50 pounds

Than the equation becomes

x = \frac{233}{4} - 50

x = 58.25- 50

x = 8.25 pounds.

Therefore the weight Clara's need to remove from her suitcase be 8.25 pounds.

As 1 pounds = 16 ounces

Convert 8.25 pounds into ounces.

x = 8.25 × 16

x = 132 ounces

Therefore the weight Clara's need to remove from her suitcase be 132 ounces.

Four sisters bought a present for their mother. They received a 10% discount on the original price of the gift. After the discou
Orlov [11]

Answer:

$40

Step-by-step explanation:

x is the original price of the gift

(10% of x) is the value of the discount

(10% of x) = 10/100 . x = 0.1 x

0.1 x    is the value of the discount

x - (10% of x) is what was paid, after the discount

x - 0.1 x = 0.9 x

0.9 x    is what was paid

4 children paid $9/each

4 times $9 = $36

$36 is the total amount that was paid by the children

$36 = 0.9 x

$36 / 0.9 = x

x = $36 / 0.9 = 360 / 9

x = 40

Translate and solve: seventy-eight times n is at least 312.
RideAnS [48]

It translates to 78n \ge 312 which solves to n \ge 4 after dividing both sides by 78. This means n is equal to 4 or it can be larger than 4.
