A subway car leaves station A; it gains speed at the rate of 4 ft/s^2 for of until it has reached and then at the rate 6 then th

e speed of 48 ft/s The car maintains the same speed until it approaches station B; driver applies the brakes, giving the car a constant deceleration and bringing it to a stop in 6 s. The total running time from A to B is 40 s Draw the a-t, v t, and s-t curves, and determine the distance between stations A and B.

Answer:

See attachment

1512 ft

Explanation:

Since the acceleration is either constant or zero,  the a−t curve is made of horizontal straight-line segments. The values of t2  and a4 are determined as follows:

Acceleration - Time

0 < t < 6: Change in v = area under a–t curve

V_6 - 0 =  (6 s)(4 ft/s2 ) = 24 ft/s

6 < t < t2: Since the velocity increases from 24 to 48 ft/s,

Change in v = area under a–t curve

48 - 24 = (t2 - 6) * 6

t2 = 10 s

t2 < t < 34: Since the velocity is constant, the acceleration is zero.

34 < t < 40: Change in v = area under a–t curve

0 - 42 = 6*a4

a4 = - 8 ft / s^2

The acceleration being negative, the corresponding area is below the t axis;  this area represents a decrease in velocity.

Velocity - Time

Since the acceleration is either constant or zero, the  v−t curve is made of straight-line segments connecting the points determined above.

Change in x = area under v−t curve

0 < t < 6:     x6 - 0 = 0.5*6*24 = 72 ft

6 < t < 10:    x10 - x6 = 0.5*4*(24 + 48) = 144 ft

10 < t < 34:     x34 - x10 = 48*24 = 1152 ft

34 < t < 40:     x40 - x34 = 0.5*6*48 = 144 ft

Adding the changes in x, we obtain the distance from A to B:

d = x40 - 0 = 1512 ft

Refrigerant-134a enters the coils of the evaporator of a refrigeration system as a saturated liquid–vapor mixture at a pressure
dezoksy [38]

Answer:

(a). Entropy change of refrigerant  is  = 0.7077 \frac{KJ}{K}

(b). Entropy change of cooled space dS_{space} = - 0.6844 \frac{KJ}{K}

(c). Total entropy change is dS = 0.0232 \frac{KJ}{K}

Explanation:

Given data

Saturation pressure = 140 K pa

Saturation temperature from property table

T_{sat} = - 18.77 °c =  - 18.77 + 273 = 254.23 K

(a). Entropy change of refrigerant  is given by

dS_{ref} = \frac{Q}{T_{sat}}

Since heat absorbed by refrigerant Q = 180 KJ

dS = \frac{180}{254.23}

dS = 0.7077 \frac{KJ}{K}

(b). Entropy change of cooled space

dS_{space} = - \frac{Q}{T_{space}}

T_{space} = - 10 °c = 263 K

dS_{space} = - \frac{180}{263}

dS_{space} = - 0.6844 \frac{KJ}{K}

(c). Total entropy change is given by

dS = dS_{ref} + dS_{space}

dS = 0.7077 - 0.6844

dS = 0.0232 \frac{KJ}{K}

This is the value of total entropy change.

prohojiy [21]

Answer:

Functional Relationship

Explanation:

A functional relationship is only achieved through control and involves a specific change in one event (dependent variable) that can reliably be produced by specific manipulations of another event (independent variable), and the change in the dependent variable is unlikely to be the result of other extraneous factors (confounding variables

In which of the following branches of engineering is the practice not restricted?
fgiga [73]

Answer:

a) civil engineering.

Explanation:

Civil engineering is a professional engineering program that deals with the construction, design, and maintenance of all the natural and man-made environments including dams, buildings, railways, and roads.

Civil engineering is the branch of engineering that is the practice not restricted because civil engineer is not restricted to academic profession but practice in designing and construction can make someone a professional civil engineer.

Hence, the correct answer is "a)."

What is the physical significance of the Reynolds number?. How is defined for external flow over a plate of length L.
yanalaym [24]

Answer:

Re=\dfrac{\rho\ v\ l}{\mu }

Explanation:

Reynolds number:

  Reynolds number describe the type of flow.If Reynolds number is too high then flow is called turbulent flow and Reynolds is  low then flow is called laminar flow .

Reynolds number is a dimensionless number.Reynolds number given is the ratio of inertia force to the viscous force.

Re=\dfrac{F_i}{F_v}

For plate can be given as

Re=\dfrac{\rho\ v\ l}{\mu }

Where  ρ is the density of fluid , v is the average velocity of fluid and μ is the dynamic viscosity of fluid.

Flow on plate is a external flow .The values of Reynolds number for different flow given as

Reynolds\ number\is \ >\ 5 \times 10 ^5\ then\ flow\ will\ be\ turbulent.
