According to the article,"Song Dialects and Colonization in the House Finch" (Condor (1975): 407- 422) reported the mean value o

f song duration for the population of house finches is 1.5 min with a standard deviation of .9 min. Suppose an SRS of 25 finches is selected. How likely is it that the average song duration of the sample will be greater than 1.7 min?

Answer:

P(\bar X >1.7) = P(Z> \frac{1.7-1.5}{0.18}) = P(Z>1.11) = 1-P(Z

Step-by-step explanation:

Previous concepts

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

The Z-score is "a numerical measurement used in statistics of a value's relationship to the mean (average) of a group of values, measured in terms of standard deviations from the mean".

Solution to the problem

Let X the random variable that represent the song duration of a population, and for this case we know the distribution for X is given by:

X \sim N(1.5,0.9)

Where \mu=1.5 and \sigma=0.9

Since the distribution for X is normal then we have that the distribution for the sample mean \bar X is given by:

\bar X \sim N(\mu, \frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}})

We select a sample size of n =25 so then the deviation for the sample mean is given by:

\sigma_{\bar X}= \frac{0.9}{\sqrt{25}}= 0.18

And we can use the z score formula given by:

z= \frac{\bar X -\mu}{\sigma_{\bar X}}

We want to find this probability:

P(\bar X >1.7)

And using the z score ,the complement rule and the normal standard distribution table or excel we got:

P(\bar X >1.7) = P(Z> \frac{1.7-1.5}{0.18}) = P(Z>1.11) = 1-P(Z

navik [9.2K]

Answer:

The variable c represents the domain as it is the independent variable.

The domain of the function F(c) is given by c ≥ 0.

So, only positive values for the input make sense.

The upper limit of the domain is +∞ and lower limit is 0.

It is not possible for the team to earn $50.50 as it will be only multiple of 2.

Step-by-step explanation:

If F(c) represents the earning of a volleyball team from selling c cupcakes and each cupcake costs $2 each, then the equation that models the situation is

F(c) = 2c ..... (1)

The variable c represents the domain as it is the independent variable. (Answer)

The domain of the function F(c) is given by c ≥ 0. (Answer)

Felecia left her home to visit her daughter, driving 45mph. Her husband waited for the dog sitter to arrive and left home 20 min
Jet001 [13]

Felecia's husband will catch up to her 1 hour 30 minutes after leaving.

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1; Felecia is traveling at 45 mph, her husband starts 20 minutes after her but travels at a speed of 55 mph. So first we need to calculate how much of a head start Felecia got.

Head start = \frac{1}{3} × 45 miles an hour = 15 miles.

So Felecia got a head start of 15 miles.

Step 2; Since Felecia and her husband are traveling at different rates, we can determine how much distance there is between them. Since Felecia is traveling at 45 mph and her husband is traveling at 55 mph, their gap in between is closing at a rate of 55 - 45 = 10 miles every hour. So for every hour, the gap between them is closing by 10 miles.

Total gap initially = 15 miles.

The rate at which gap is being closed = 10 miles an hour.

Time to close the gap = 15 / 10 = 1.5 hours.

Using the formula given and our information, we have:

E=1.96\times \sqrt{\frac{\frac{288}{400}(1-\frac{288}{400})}{400}}
