Two lasers are shining on a double slit, with slit separation d. Laser 1 has a wavelength of d/20, whereas laser 2 has a wavelen

gth of d/15. The lasers produce separate interference patterns on a screen a distance 4.90 m away from the slits.
a. What is the distance Δ ymax-max between the first maxima (on the same side of the central maximum) of the two patterns?
b. What is the distance Δymax-min between the second maximum of laser 1 and the third minimum of laser 2, on the same side of the central maximum?

Answer:

a)Δy = 81.7mm

b)Δy = 32.7cm

Explanation:

To calculate the distance between any point of the interference pattern, simply use the trigonometric ratio of the tangent:

Tan \theta = \frac{y}{D}

where  D  is the separation between the slits and the screen where the interference pattern is observed.

a) In this case:

Δy  =  |y1max  (λ1) −  y1max  (λ2)|

Δy = |\frac{D\lambda _1}{d}  - \frac{D\lambda _2}{d} |

Δy = D |\frac{d/20}{d} - \frac{d/15}{d}  |

Δy = D |\frac{1}{20} - \frac{1}{15}  |

Δy = 4.90 |\frac{1}{20}- \frac{1}{15}  |

Δy = 81.7mm

The separation between these maxima is 81.7 mm

b)

Δy  =  |y₂max  (λ1) −  y₂max  (λ2)|

Δy = D|\frac{2(d/20)}{d} - \frac{5(d/15)}{2d} |

Δy = 4.90|\frac{1}{10} - \frac{1}{6} |

Δy = 32.7cm

The separation between the maximum interference of the 2nd order (2nd maximum) of the pattern produced by the laser 1 and the minimum of the 2nd order (3rd minimum) of the pattern produced by the laser 2 is 32.7 cm.

Noise-canceling headphones are an application of destructive interference. Each side of the headphones uses a microphone to pick
jeka57 [31]

Answer:

2.5 ms

Explanation:

v = Speed of sound in air = 343 m/s

f = Frequency = 200 Hz

Wavelength is given by

\lambda=\dfrac{v}{f}\\\Rightarrow \lambda=\dfrac{343}{200}\\\Rightarrow \lambda=1.715\ m

In the case of destructive interference, path difference is given by

x=\dfrac{\lambda}{2}\\\Rightarrow x=\dfrac{1.715}{2}\\\Rightarrow x=0.8575\ m

Delay is givenn by

t=\dfrac{x}{v}\\\Rightarrow t=\dfrac{0.8575}{343}\\\Rightarrow t=0.0025\ s

The minimum headphone delay, that will cancel this noise is 2.5 ms

Hydraulic press is called an instrument for multiplication of force. Why?
Lisa [10]

Answer:

Hydraulic press is called an instrument for multiplication of force. Why? Because it uses Pascal's idea and  principle: F=p*S. If we apply small force to small piston you will generate a pressure. According to Pascal's law pressure is the same everywhere in closed system so the same pressure will act on large piston on the other side too.

What is the approximate pressure of a storage cylinder of recovered r-410a that does not contain any non-condensable impurities
Aliun [14]

Answer:

173psig

Explanation:

The storage cylinder of recovered R-410A is mixture of difluoromethane and pentafluoroethane which is used as a refrigerant in air conditioning application. The refrigeration sector has low temperatures for installation. The pressure of cylinder at 80 F will be 173 psig. The pure refrigerants have inside a container have saturation temperature which is equal to ambient temperature.

At 1 atm pressure, the heat of sublimation of gallium is 277 kj/mol and the heat of vaporization is 271 kj/mol. to the correct n
Andreyy89
Below are the choices that can be found elsewhere:

 a. 268 kJ
<span>b. 271 kJ </span>
<span>c. 9 kJ </span>
<span>d. 6 kJ
</span>
So the key thing to realize here is what the information given to you actually means. Sublimation is going from a sold to a gas. Vaporization is going from a liquid to a gas. Hence you can create two equations from the information that you have:

<span>Ga (s) --> Ga (g) delta H = 277 kJ/mol </span>

<span>Ga (l) --> Ga (g) delta H = 271 kJ/mol </span>

<span>From these two equations, you can then infer how to get the melting equation be simply finding the difference between the sublimation (two steps) and vaporization (one step). </span>

<span>Ga (s) --> Ga (l) delta H = 6 kJ/mol </span>

<span>At this point, all you need to do is a bit of stoichiometry. You start with 1.50 mol and multiply by the amount of energy per mole (6 kJ/mol). </span>

<span>*ANSWER* </span>
<span>9 kJ/mol (C)</span>
