A car enters a level, unbanked semi-circular hairpin turn of 100 m radius at a speed of 28 m/s. The coefficient of friction betw

een the tires and the road is μ = 0.800. If the car maintains a constant speed of 28 m/s, it will A. first veer toward the center for the first quarter-circle, then veer toward the outside for the second quarter circle. B. tend to veer toward the outside of the circle.

Answer:

As  28m/s = 28m/s

Explanation:

r = the radius of the curve

m =  the mass of the car

μ = the coefficient of kinetic friction

N = normal reaction

When rounding the curve, the centripetal acceleration is

a = \frac{v^{2}}{r}

therefore

\mu mg = m \frac{v^{2}}{r} \\\\ \mu =  \frac{v^{2}}{rg}

v = \sqrt{\mu rg}

\mu = \sqrt{0.8 \times 100\times9.8} \\\\= 28m/s

As  28m/s = 28m/s

Hitman42 [59]

Answer:

v_f = 16.6 m/s

Explanation:

As we know by force equation that force along the inclined planed due to gravity is given as

F_g = mg sin\theta

so the acceleration due to gravity along the plane is given as

a = \frac{F_g}{m}

now we have

a = g sin\theta

a = (9.81 sin4.0)

a = 0.68 m/s^2

now we know that

v_f^2 - v_i^2 = 2 a d

v_f^2 - 9.2^2 = 2(0.68)(140)

v_f = 16.6 m/s

6. Two blocks are released from rest at the same height. Block A slides down a steeper ramp than Block B. Both ramps are frictio
Stolb23 [73]

Answer:

a. the work done by the gravitational force on Block A is <u>less than</u> the work done by the gravitational force on Block B.

b. the speed of Block A is <u>equal to</u> the speed of Block B.

c. the momentum of Block A is <u>less than</u> the momentum of Block B.

Explanation:

a. The  work done by the gravitational force is equal to:

w = m*g*h

where m is mass, g is the standard gravitational acceleration and h is height. Given that both blocks are released from rest at the same height, then, the bigger the mass, the bigger the work done.

b. With ramps frictionless, the final speed of the blocs is:

v = √(2*g*h)

which is independent of the mass of the blocks.

c. The momentum is calculated as follows:

momentum = m*v

Given that both bocks has the same speed, then, the bigger the mass, the bigger the momentum.

A gas is contained in a vertical piston-cylinder assembly by a piston with a face area of 40 in2 and weight of 100 lbf. The atmo
kompoz [17]

Answer:

ΔU=0.8834 Btu

Explanation:

Given data

Area of piston A=40 in²

The weight W=100 lbf

Atmospheric Pressure P=14.7 lbf/in²

Work added E=3 Btu

The change in elevation Δh=1 ft =12 inch

To find

Change in internal energy of the gas ΔU

Solution

For Piston

ΔPE=| W+(P×A)×Δh |

ΔPE=| 100+(14.7×40)×12 |

ΔPE=8256 lbf.in

ΔPE=8256×0.000107

ΔPE=0.8834 Btu

From law of conservation of energy then ,the charging in the potential energy of the piston is made by exerting force by gas

Wgas= -ΔPE

Wgas= -0.8834 Btu

For the gas as a system and by applying first law of thermodynamics

Q-W=ΔU

0-(-0.8834 Btu)=ΔU

So

ΔU=0.8834 Btu

V ( initial ) = 20 m/s
h = 2.30 m
h = v y * t + g t ² / 2
d = v x * t
1 ) At α = 18°:
v y = 20 * sin 18° = 6.18 m/s
v x = 20 * cos 18° = 19.02 m/ s
2.30 = 6.18 t + 4.9 t²
4.9 t² + 6.18 t - 2.30 = 0
After solving the quadratic equation ( a = 4.9, b = 6.18, c = - 2.3 ):
t 1/2 = (- 6.18 +/- √( 6.18² - 4 * 4.9 * (-2.3)) ) / ( 2 * 4.9 )
t = 0.3 s
d 1 = 19.02 m/s * 0.3 s = 5.706 m
2 ) At  α = 8°:
v y = 20* sin 8° = 2.78 m/s
v x = 20* cos 8° = 19.81 m/s
2.3 = 2.78 t + 4.9 t²
4.9 t² + 2.78 t - 2.3 = 0
t = 0.46 s
d 2 = 19.81 * 0.46 = 9.113 m
The distance is:
d 2 - d 1 = 9.113 m - 5.706 m = 3.407 m
