Answer:

(a) The value of z test statistics is -2.25.

(b) At 0.05 significance level the z table gives critical value of -1.645 for left-tailed test.

(c) The p-value for this test statistic is 0.0122.

(d) We conclude that the average number of chocolate chips in all the cookies is less than 9.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that a sample of 16 cookies is taken to test the claim that each cookie contains at least 9 chocolate chips.

The average number of chocolate chips per cookie in the sample was 7.875. The standard deviation of the population is 2.

Let \mu = <em><u>the average number of chocolate chips in all the cookies</u></em>.

So, Null Hypothesis, H_0 : \mu \geq 9     {means that the average number of chocolate chips in all the cookies is at least 9}

Alternate Hypothesis, H_A : \mu < 9     {means that the average number of chocolate chips in all the cookies is less than 9}

The test statistics that would be used here <u>One-sample z test statistics</u> as we know about the population standard deviation;

                     T.S. =  \frac{\bar X-\mu}{\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n} } }  ~ N(0,1)

where, \bar X = sample mean number of chocolate chips per cookie = 7.875

           \sigma = population standard deviation = 2

           n = sample of cookies taken = 16

So, <u><em>the test statistics</em></u>  =  \frac{7.875-9}{\frac{2}{\sqrt{16} } }

                                     =  -2.25

(a) The value of z test statistics is -2.25.

(b) <u>Now, at 0.05 significance level the z table gives critical value of -1.645 for left-tailed test.</u>

Since our test statistic is less than the critical value of z as -2.25 < -1.645, so we have sufficient evidence to reject our null hypothesis as it will fall in the rejection region due to which <u>we reject our null hypothesis</u>.

(c) The P-value of the test statistics is given by;

             P-value = P(Z < -2.25) = 1 - P(Z \leq 2.25)

                           = 1 - 0.9878 = <u>0.0122</u>

(d) Therefore, we conclude that the average number of chocolate chips in all the cookies is less than 9.

Prajna is listing squares of two-digit numbers in such a way that the digit in their units place is 6.
dem82 [27]

Answer:

2 (option B)

Question:

Prajna is listing squares of two-digit numbers in such a way that the digit in their units place is 6.

How many numbers should he have listed?

a) 9 b) 2 c)18 d) 20

Step-by-step explanation:

We would find the perfect squares that are two digit numbers

For two digit perfect squares:

Largest two digit number= 81 = 9²

Smallest two digit number= 16 = 4²

Total Two digit number perfect squares = Highest number - lowest number + 1

= 9-4+1 = 6

There are 6 two digit perfect squares

Next, we have to find how many of them have 6 in their units place.

The rule to be applied: If a number has 4 or 6 in the unit place, then its square has 6 in the units place.

Following this, the possibilities are 4², 6².

We have two of such numbers.

Therefore, he would have listed 2 numbers.

Jack is driving from his house to the airport. At 9:00 AM, he is 150 miles from the airport. At 10:30 AM, he is 75 miles from th
Jet001 [13]

Answer:

I b3live it is 50 miles/hour

Step-by-step explanation:

We need to know how many miles he drove from 9:00 to 10:30 so you do 150-75 which is 75. Then, you do 75÷1.5 because 9:00 and 10:30 are an hour and a half apart and then you get 50 mph.

This line plot shows something about trails in a state park. What is true about the data in this line plot?
Zepler [3.9K]

Answer:

The total length of the Dogwood Trail is 24 kilometers

The difference between the lengths of the trails is 6 kilometers

Step-by-step explanation:

<u><em>The complete and correct question is</em></u>

The diagram shows two different nature trails in a state park. The solid line shows the Dogwood Trail. The dashed line shows the Elm Trail.

Which of the following statements are true about the lengths of the trails? Check all that apply.

1.The total length of the Dogwood Trail is 16 kilometers.

2.The total length of the Dogwood Trail is 24 kilometers.

3.The Elm Trail is longer than the Dogwood Trail.

4.The difference between the lengths of the trails is 2 kilometers.

5.The difference between the lengths of the trails is 6 kilometers.

<u><em>The picture in the attached figure</em></u>

step 1

Find the value of a

Applying the Pythagorean Theorem in the right triangle ABC

13^2=a^2+5^2\\a^2=169-25\\a^2=144\\a=12\ km

step 2

Find the value of b

Applying the Pythagorean Theorem in the right triangle CDE

5^2=b^2+3^2\\b^2=25-9\\b^2=16\\b=4\ km

step 3

Find the total length of the Dogwood Trail (solid blue line)

The total length is equal to

AD=AB+BC+CE+ED ---> by segment addition postulate

substitute the given values

AD=a+5+b+3=(a+b+8)\ km

substitute the value of a and b

AD=(12+4+8)=24\ km

step 4

Find the total length of the Elm Trail  (dashed red line)

The total length is equal to

AD=AC+CD ---> by segment addition postulate

substitute the given values

AD=13+5=18\ km

<u><em>Verify the following statements</em></u>

Part 1) The total length of the Dogwood Trail is 16 kilometers

The statement is false

Because

The total length of the Dogwood Trail is 24 kilometers (see the explanation)

Part 2) The total length of the Dogwood Trail is 24 kilometers

The statement is true (see the explanation)

Part 3) The Elm Trail is longer than the Dogwood Trail

The statement is false

Because

The Elm Trail is smaller than the Dogwood Trail

18\ km < 24\ km

Part 4) The difference between the lengths of the trails is 2 kilometers

The statement is false

Because

The difference is equal to

24-18=6\ km

Part 5) The difference between the lengths of the trails is 6 kilometers

The statement is true

Because

The difference is equal to

24-18=6\ km
