The National Center for Education Statistics would like to test the hypothesis that the proportion of Bachelor's degrees that we

re earned by women equals 0.60. A random sample of 140 college graduates with Bachelor degrees found that 75 were women. The National Center for Education Statistics would like to set α = 0.10. The conclusion for this hypothesis test would be that because the absolute value of the test statistic is __________________________________.

This question involves the hypothesis test for the proportion. First we build the hypothesis, then find the test statistic, and according to the test statistic, we get the following answer:

The conclusion for this hypothesis test would be that because the absolute value of the test statistic is less than the critical value of 1.645, we do not reject the null hypothesis that the proportion of Bachelor's degrees that were earned by women equals 0.60.

The National Center for Education Statistics would like to test the hypothesis that the proportion of Bachelor's degrees that were earned by women equals 0.60

This means that at the null hypothesis, it is tested if the proportion is of 0.6, that is:

H_0: p = 0.6

At the alternative hypothesis, we test if the proportion is different of 0.6, that is:

H_1: p \neq 0.6

Decision rule:

Two-tailed test(test if the proportion is different of a value), so we exclude the top and bottom 0.1/2 = 0.05, meaning that looking at the z-table, we find a critical value of |Z_c| = 1.645, and the decision rule is:

Accept the null hypothesis: |Z| < 1.645

Reject the null hypothesis: |Z| > 1.645

Test statistic:

z = \frac{X - \mu}{\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}}

In which X is the sample mean, \mu is the value tested at the null hypothesis, \sigma is the standard deviation and n is the size of the sample.

0.6 is tested at the null hypothesis:

This means that \mu = 0.6, \sigma = 0.4

75 out of a sample of 140:

This means that:

n = 140, \pi = \frac{75}{140} = 0.5357

Value of the test statistic:

z = \frac{X - \mu}{\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}}

z = \frac{0.5357 - 0.6}{\frac{\sqrt{0.6*0.4}}{\sqrt{140}}}

z = -1.55

So |z| = 1.55

Decision:

The conclusion for this hypothesis test would be that because the absolute value of the test statistic is less than the critical value of 1.645, we do not reject the null hypothesis that the proportion of Bachelor's degrees that were earned by women equals 0.60.

Hey!

There are three sentences in this problem that require us to fill in the blanks with the correct number. Let's start by filling in the first sentence.

SENTENCE #1

The initial number of visits to the website was _____.

Before we being placing numbers in the blank, I would like to make sure you know the meaning of the terms in this sentence that you may not understand. I'm talking about the word initial. The term initial means the first or beginning of something. So, to simplify, the sentence is basically asking us for the first number of visits to the football team's website. It does not directly state that it wants the first number of visits in the first day or the first hour or first five hours, so we'll just assume it wants the first number of visits in the week 0.

To find the number of visits in week 0 all we have to do is review the chart and locate week 0. The number of visits to the website on week 0 is 48,000. So, the sentence completed should look something like this...

The initial number of visits to the website was 48,000.

SENTENCE #2

The percent decrease from the 4^{th} week to the 5^{th} week was ____ %.

Before we fill in the blank, I want to make sure you understand how to calculate a percentage decrease. The first step is to work out the difference (or the decrease) between the two numbers you are comparing. To do that, you can write your equation that looks something like this...

decrease = original number-new number

Then we would have to divide the decrease by the original number and multiply that answer by 100. So your new equation would have to look something like this...

% decrease=decrease ÷ original number · 100

***Note: If your answer ends up being a negative number, then this is a percentage increase.

So, now that we understand that let's move on the finding the percentage decrease in both the weeks.

The percentage decrease between both the weeks is 50%. So this means the new sentence should look something like this...

The percent decrease from week 4 to week 5 was 50%.

SENTENCE #3

The minimum number of visits on the website in the first 5 weeks since Jim began his assessment was _____ .

Solving this part of the sentence will be simple. All we have to do is take a look at the last week, which is week 5. This will give us the minimum number of visits to the football website.

So, your completed sentence should look something like this...

The minimum number of visits on the website in the first 5 weeks since Jim began his assessment was 1,500.

Hope this helps!

pav-90 [236]

Answer:

The installations at the Maumee branch would you expect to take more than 30 minutes is 10.

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided information.

Let x is the installations at the Maumee branch take more than 30 minutes.

The work standards department at corporate headquarters recently conducted a study and found that 20% of the mufflers were not installed in 30 minutes or less.

Therefore, π=0.20

The Maumee branch installed 50 mufflers last month.

Thus, n=50

Mean of the distribution: μ=nπ

Substitute the respective values in the above formula.

μ=(50)(0.20)

μ=10

Hence, the installations at the Maumee branch would you expect to take more than 30 minutes is 10.

snow_tiger [21]

Answer:

The interval estimate for the population proportion of American adults who got their health insurance from an employer is (0.43, 0.47).

Step-by-step explanation:

The confidence interval is the interval estimate of the population parameter.

The confidence interval has a certain probability that the true value of the parameter is contained in the interval.

The general form of the confidence interval is:

CI=SS\pm MOE

Here,

SS = sample statistic.

MOE = margin of error

The sample statistic is an unbiased estimator of the population parameter. If the sample size is large enough then the sample statistic can be used to estimate the population parameter value.

In this case the parameter of interest is the population proportion of American adults who got their health insurance from an employer.

The information provided is:

SS = p = 0.45.

MOE = 0.02.

Compute the confidence interval for the population proportion p as follows:

CI=p\pm MOE\\=0.45\pm 0.02\\=(0.43, 0.47)

Thus, the interval estimate for the population proportion of American adults who got their health insurance from an employer is (0.43, 0.47).
