Answer: And Buck was truly a red-eyed devil, as he drew himself together for the spring, hair bristling, mouth foaming, a mad glitter in his blood-shot eyes. Straight at the man he launched his one hundred and forty pounds of fury, surcharged with the pent passion of two days and nights.

Explanation:

We need to use a hyphen when we are transforming a group of two words or more into an adjective. That is, when those words characterize a noun and are placed right before it, they should have a hyphen between them.

In this excerpt, red-eyed is characterizing devil, and blood-shot is characterizing eyes. The other options given are not functioning as adjectives to a noun and, therefore, do not need the hyphen.

Check out some examples that show when to use it:

I live in a middle-class neighborhood.

I want to live in a neighborhood that is middle class.

Do you think that John Muir made an effective argument for saving the redwoods? Why or why not?
mylen [45]

John Muir makes an effective argument for saving the redwoods. He appeals to logic by giving evidence about the destruction. He seems very credible because he knows about the history of individual trees. Finally, he makes readers want to save the trees by using strong emotional language throughout.

Since celebrities are constantly in the public eye, there is a debate over what their responsibilities as role models should be.
Ludmilka [50]
Celebrities should use their status as role models to bring attention to social issues.

The center of a cluster web for an essay should contain the main idea of the essay. From the essay prompt, we know that the essay should address the issue of whether or not celebrities have a responsibility to act as role models. The statement in the center of the cluster web should be a broad statement that answers the question without any specific evidence. The evidence goes in connecting bubbles. The only broad statement that addresses the essay prompt is the one that states: Celebrities should use their status as role models to bring attention to social issues.

melomori [17]

Answer:

In short, poverty can change the way the brain develops in young children. The major reason for this effect is stress. Children growing up in poverty experience multiple stressful events: neighborhood crime and drug use; divorce, parental conflict, and other family problems, including abuse and neglect by their parents; parental financial problems and unemployment; physical and mental health problems of one or more family members; and so forth. Their great levels of stress in turn affect their bodies in certain harmful ways.
