Given that there are 17 portable mini suites (a.k.a. cages) in a row at the Paws and Claws Holiday Pet Resort. They are neatly labeled with their guests' names. There are 8 poodles and 9 tabbies. How many ways can the "suites" be arranged if: a) there are no restrictions.

b) cats and dogs must alternate.

c) dogs must be next to each other.

d) dogs must be next to each other and cats must be next to each other.

Part A:

If there are no restrictions, then the number of ways the "suites" can be arranged is given by:

17!=17\times16\times15\times14\times13\times12\times11\times10\times9\times8\times7\times6\times5\times4\times3\times2\times1=355,687,428,096,000 \ ways

Part B:

If cats and dogs must alternate, then the number of ways the "suites" can be arranged is given by:

9!\times8!=9\times8\times7\times6\times5\times4\times3\times2\times1\times8\times7\times6\times5\times4\times3\times2\times1=14,631,321,600 \ ways

Part C:

If dogs must be next to each other, then the group of dogs are taken as 1 object and there are now 10 objects to arrange. The number of ways to arrange 10 objects is given by:

10!=10\times9\times8\times7\times6\times5\times4\times3\times2\times1=3,628,800
 \ ways

Also, the group of dogs can be arranged in:

8!=8\times7\times6\times5\times4\times3\times2\times1=40,320
 \ ways

Therefore, the total number of ways the "suites" can be arranged is given by:

10!\times8!=3,628,800\times40,320=146,313,216,000 \ ways

Part D:

If dogs must be next to each other and cats must be next to each other, then the group of dogs are taken as 1 object and the group of cats are taken as 1 object, then there are now 2 objects to arrange.

The number of ways to arrange two objects is given by:

2!=2\times1=2

The number of ways the 9 dogs are to be arranged is given by:

9!=9\times8\times7\times6\times5\times4\times3\times2\times1=362,880

The number of ways the 8 cats are to be arranged is given by:
8!=8\times7\times6\times5\times4\times3\times2\times1=40,320

Therefore, the total number of ways the "suites" can be arranged is given by:

2!\times9!\times8!=2\times362,880\times40,320=29,262,643,200 \ ways

The life, in years, of a certain type of electrical switch has an exponential distribution with an average life β=44. If 100 o
Bond [772]

Answer:

0.9999

Step-by-step explanation:

Let X be the random variable that measures the time that a switch will survive.

If X has an exponential distribution with an average life β=44, then the probability that a switch will survive less than n years is given by

\bf P(X

So, the probability that a switch fails in the first year is

\bf P(X

Now we have 100 of these switches installed in different systems, and let Y be the random variable that measures the the probability that exactly k switches will fail in the first year.

Y can be modeled with a binomial distribution where the probability of “success” (failure of a switch) equals 0.0225 and

\bf P(Y=k)=\binom{100}{k}(0.02247)^k(1-0.02247)^{100-k}

where

\bf \binom{100}{k} equals combinations of 100 taken k at a time.

The probability that at most 15 fail during the first year is

\bf \sum_{k=0}^{15}\binom{100}{k}(0.02247)^k(1-0.02247)^{100-k}=0.9999

Which of these statements best describes the relation shown in Item 1?
Oksi-84 [34.3K]

Answer:

The relation is 'a function that is one-to-many'.

Step-by-step explanation:

From the table, we can see that element 10 i.e. y=10 in the range, corresponds to two elements i.e. x=-5, and x=5 in the domain.

In other words, the given table represents the many-to-one function as an element of the range y = 10 corresponds to more than one element in the domain.

Therefore, the relation is 'a function that is one-to-many'.

A jet flying at 123 m/s banks to make a horizontal circular turn. The radius of the turn is 3810 m, and the mass of the jet is 2
aev [14]

Answer:

The magnitude of the necessary lifting force is 7.95N

Step-by-step explanation:

Force = mv^2/r

mass (m) = 2.00105kg, velocity (v) = 123m/s, radius (r) = 3810m

Force = 2.00105×123^2/3810 = 30273.89/3810 = 7.95N
