One way is to use brute force (find bigger equivalent ratios and add them)
11:5
to make them bigger, we multiply both by the same number
11:5
11+5=16 nope
11:5 times 5 to both=55:25
add
55+25=80
we can just add the numbers before multiplying and then multiply after

11+5=16
16 times what=18
divide both sides by 16
1.125=what
we need to multiply each by 1.125
11:5 times 1.125 to both =12.375 : 5.625
12.375+5.625=18

a=12.375
b=5.625

Hope this helps :)

Answer:

A= 33 and B = 18

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the value of A and B, we need to take into account the proportion A: B that is equal to 11:5. We <u>can multiply both quantities of this proportion</u> by some number to find two values that satisfy A - B = 18.

The simplest case would be to think A = 11 and B = 5, but 11-5 is not equal to 18 ⇒ 11 - 5 = 6  which does not satisfy A - B = 18.

Another option to find an answer is to multiply the ratio by two: 2 (11: 5) = 22:10, but it turns out that is A = 22 and B = 10 ⇒22-10 is not equal to 18 either.

Thus we arrive at the one that is the correct answer, <u>multiplying the proportion by three</u>: 3 (11: 5) = 33 - 15, and in this case we would have A = 33 and B = 15, which meets the condition A - B = 18, because 33 - 15 = 18

Which phrase describes the perpendicular distance between two bases of a cylinder
Flura [38]

Answer:

The height of the cylinder

Step-by-step explanation:

The perpendicular distance between two bases of a cylinder is not going to be the radius or diameter of the bases (because it is BETWEEN the bases, not ON them) and it is not the area of the bases because the area of a shape cannot be a distance.

So, the only option left is the height of the cylinder, which is the correct answer.

a. Parameterize C by

\vec r(t)=(1-t)(5\,\vec\imath)+t(2\,\vec\jmath)=(5-5t)\,\vec\imath+2t\,\vec\jmath

with 0\le t\le1.

b/c. The line integral of \vec F(x,y)=-y\,\vec\imath+x\,\vec\jmath over C is

\displaystyle\int_C\vec F(x,y)\cdot\mathrm d\vec r=\int_0^1\vec F(x(t),y(t))\cdot\frac{\mathrm d\vec r(t)}{\mathrm dt}\,\mathrm dt

=\displaystyle\int_0^1(-2t\,\vec\imath+(5-5t)\,\vec\jmath)\cdot(-5\,\vec\imath+2\,\vec\jmath)\,\mathrm dt

=\displaystyle\int_0^1(10t+(10-10t))\,\mathrm dt

=\displaystyle10\int_0^1\mathrm dt=\boxed{10}

d. Notice that we can write the line integral as

\displaystyle\int_C\vecF\cdot\mathrm d\vec r=\int_C(-y\,\mathrm dx+x\,\mathrm dy)

By Green's theorem, the line integral is equivalent to

\displaystyle\iint_D\left(\frac{\partial x}{\partial x}-\frac{\partial(-y)}{\partial y}\right)\,\mathrm dx\,\mathrm dy=2\iint_D\mathrm dx\,\mathrm dy

where D is the triangle bounded by C, and this integral is simply twice the area of D. D is a right triangle with legs 2 and 5, so its area is 5 and the integral's value is 10.
