Answer : curve r(t) = t i + (2t - t 2)k intersect the paraboloid z = x 2 + y 2

By the equation of r(t), x = t, y = 0, and z = 5t - t^{2}.

Thus, z = x^{2} + y^{2}

on solving we get,

5t - t^{2} = t^{2} + 0^{2}

Now, we can solve for t

t^{2} + t^{2} -5t = 0

So, 2t^2 - 5t = 0

2t ( t - 5/2) = 0

t = 0 , t = 5

plugging these values in t = 0 into r(t)

r(0) = <0 , 0 , 0>

r(5) = < 5, 0 , 25 >

The curve r\left( t \right) = ti + \left( {5t - {t^2}} \right)k intersect the paraboloid z = {x^2} + {y^2} at \boxed{t = 0} and \boxed{t = \frac{5}{2}}.

Further explanation:

Given:

The equation of the curve r\left( t \right) = ti + \left( {5t - {t^2}} \right)k.

The equation of the paraboloid z = {x^2} + {y^2}.

Explanation:

From theequation of the curve r\left( t \right) = ti + \left( {5t - {t^2}} \right)k.

The value of x is t and the value of y is 0 and the equation of z is z = 5t - {t^2}.

Substitute t for x, 0 for y and 5t - {t^2} in equation of the paraboloid

\begin{aligned}5t - {t^2} &= {t^2} + 0\\0&= {t^2} + {t^2} - 5t\\0&= 2{t^2} - 5t\\0&= 2t\left( {t - 5} \right)\\t&= 0\;{\text{or}}\;t - 5 &= 0\\t &= 0\;{\text{or }}t&= 5\\\end{aligned}

The value of r\left( 0 \right) can be obtained as follows,

\begin{aligned}r\left( 0 \right)&= 0 + \left( {0 - {0^2}} \right)k\\&= 0\\\end{aligned}

The value of y is 0 and the value of z can be obtained as follows,

\begin{aligned}z&= {5^2} + {0^2}\\&=25\\\end{aligned}

The curve r\left( t \right) = ti + \left( {5t - {t^2}} \right)k intersect the paraboloid z = {x^2} + {y^2} at \boxed{t = 0} and \boxed{t = \frac{5}{2}}.

Sladkaya [172]

Answer:

$23,360

Step-by-step explanation:

Calculation to determine how much carol originally invested in the account

First step is to divide £23517.60 by 1.025

= (23,517.60)/(1+.025)

= (23,517.60)/1.025

=$22,944

Second step is to add back the $1,000 withdrew

=$22,944+$1,000

=$23,944

Now let calculate how much carol originally invested in the account

$23,944=1.025P

Divide both side by 1.025

P=$23,944/1.025

P=$23,360

Therefore the amount that carol originally invested in the account is $23,360

Answer:

The <em>t</em>-value used for the 95% confidence interval of paired data is 2.776.

Step-by-step explanation:

The confidence interval formula for mean difference for a paired data is as follows:

CI=\bar x_{d}\pm t_{\alpha/2, (n-1)}\times \frac{s_{d}}{\sqrt{n}}

Here,

\bar x_{d} = sample mean of the difference,

s_{d} = sample standard deviation of the difference,

<em>n </em>= sample size (both samples are of same size).

t_{\alpha/2, (n-1)} = critical value of <em>t</em>

(<em>n</em> - 1) = degrees of freedom

The information provided is:

<em>n</em> = 5

Confidence level = 95%

The critical value of <em>t</em> is:

t_{\alpha/2, (n-1)}=t_{0.05/2, (5-1)}

               =t_{0.025, 4}

               =2.776

*Use a <em>t</em>-table for the critical value of <em>t</em>.

Thus, the <em>t</em>-value used for the 95% confidence interval of paired data is 2.776.

General Hospital has noted that they admit an average of 9 patients per hour.
serious [3.7K]

Answer:

(a) The probability that during the next hour less than 3 patients will be admitted is 0.00623.

(b) The probability that during the next two hours exactly 8 patients will be admitted is 0.00416.

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>The complete question is:</u> General Hospital has noted that they admit an average of 8 patients per hour.

(a) What is the probability that during the next hour less than 3 patients will be admitted?

(b) What is the probability that during the next two hours exactly 8 patients will be admitted?

The above situation can be represented through Poisson distribution as it includes the arrival rate of the pattern. So, the probability distribution of the Poisson distribution is given by;

P(X = x) = \frac{e^{-\lambda} \times \lambda^{x} }{x!} ; x = 0,1,2,......

Here X = Number of patients admitted in the hospital

         \lambda = arrival rate of patients per hour = 9 patients

So, X ~ Poisson(\lambda = 9)

(a) The probability that during the next hour less than 3 patients will be admitted is given by = P(X < 3)

    P(X < 3) = P(X = 0) + P(X = 1) + P(X = 2)

                  = \frac{e^{-9} \times 9^{0} }{0!} + \frac{e^{-9} \times 9^{1} }{1!} + \frac{e^{-9} \times 9^{2} }{2!}

                  = e^{-9}  +(e^{-9} \times 9)+ \frac{e^{-9} \times 81}{2}

                  = <u>0.00623</u>

(b) Here, \lambda = 9 \times 2 = 18 because we have to find the probability for the next two hours and we are given in the question of per hour.

So, X ~ Poisson(\lambda = 18)

Now, the probability that during the next two hours exactly 8 patients will be admitted is given by = P(X = 8)

    P(X = 8) =  \frac{e^{-18} \times 18^{8} }{8!}

                  = <u>0.00416</u>

Colin spends 1/3 of his wages on rent and 1/4 on food. If he makes £636 per week, how much money does he have left?
uysha [10]

Answer:

£265

Step-by-step explanation:

Total fraction of money spent= \frac{1}{3} +\frac{1}{4}

                                                 = \frac{7}{12}

Actual money spent = \frac{7}{12} * £636

                                  = £371

Money he has left = £(636 - 371)

                               = £265
