The problem is about adding water to detergent solution to make a detergent solution.

In the problem g is taken for the number of gallons of water.

So, we can rephrase the given problem in simple words as

g gallons of water is added to  11 gallons of 18% detergent solution to get 12% detergent solution.

Let us write it in form of an equation,

g gallons of water is being added to 11 gallons of solution.

The total amount of solution will be (11 + g) gallons.

11 gallons of 18% detergent solution = 12% detergent solution.

For percent we can write over 100.

Therefore, above equation can be written as

11 × 18/100 = 12/100(g+11)

11 time 18 = 198

Therefore,

198/100 = 12/100(g+11)

Converting 198/100 into decimals, we get 1.98

We can rewrite above eqaution as

1.98 =12/100(g+11)

Dividing both sides by (g+11), we get

\frac{19.8}{g+11}=\frac{12}{100}

Therefore, correct option is D. 1.98/11+g = 12/100.

An airliner carries 150 passengers and has doors with a height of 78 in. Heights of men are normally distributed with a mean of
iogann1982 [59]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

x, height of men is N(69, 2.8)

Sample size n =150

Hence sample std dev = \frac{2.8}{\sqrt{150} } =0.229

Hence Z score = \frac{x-69}{0.229}

A) Prob that a random man from 150  can fit without bending

= P(X<78) = P(Z<3.214)=1.0000

B) n =75

Sample std dev = \frac{2.8}{\sqrt{75} } =0.3233

P(X bar <72) = P(Z<9.28) = 1.00

C) Prob of B is more relevent because average male passengers  would be more relevant than a single person

(D) The probability from part (b) is more relevant because it shows the proportion of flights where the mean height of the male passengers will be less than the door height.

A taut string of length 10 inches is plucked at the center. The vibration travels along the string at a constant rate of c inche
Mademuasel [1]

Answer:

The correct option is

A.  \ \dfrac{1}{c} \times \left | x - 5 \right | = 0.3

Step-by-step explanation:

The parameters given are;

The length of the string = 10 inches

The speed or rate of travel of the wave = c inches per millisecond

The position on the string from the left-most end = x

The time duration of motion of the vibration to reach x= 0.3 milliseconds

The distance covered = Speed × Time = c×0.3

Given that the string is plucked at the middle, with the vibration travelling in both directions, the point after 0.3 millisecond is x where we have;

The location on the string where it is plucked = center of the string = 10/2 = 5 inches

Distance from point of the string being plucked (the center of the string) to the left-most end = 5 inches

Therefore, on the left side of the center of the string we have;

The distance from the location of the vibration x (measured from the left most end) to the center of the string = 5 - x = -(x -5)

On the right side of the center, the distance from x is -(5 - x) = x - 5

Therefore, the the equation that can be used to find the location of the vibration after 0.3 milliseconds is \dfrac{1}{c} \times \left | x - 5 \right | = 0.3 or \left | x - 5 \right | = 0.3 \times c which gives the correct option as A

Suppose the time a child spends waiting at for the bus as a school bus stop is exponentially distributed with mean 7 minutes. De
Gala2k [10]

Answer:

The probability that the child must wait between 6 and 9 minutes on the bus stop on a given morning is 0.148.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the random variable <em>X</em> represent the time a child spends waiting at for the bus as a school bus stop.

The random variable <em>X</em> is exponentially distributed with mean 7 minutes.

Then the parameter of the distribution is,\lambda=\frac{1}{\mu}=\frac{1}{7}.

The probability density function of <em>X</em> is:

f_{X}(x)=\lambda\cdot e^{-\lambda x};\ x>0,\ \lambda>0

Compute the probability that the child must wait between 6 and 9 minutes on the bus stop on a given morning as follows:

P(6\leq X\leq 9)=\int\limits^{9}_{6} {\lambda\cdot e^{-\lambda x}} \, dx

                      =\int\limits^{9}_{6} {\frac{1}{7}\cdot e^{-\frac{1}{7} \cdot x}} \, dx \\\\=\frac{1}{7}\cdot \int\limits^{9}_{6} {e^{-\frac{1}{7} \cdot x}} \, dx \\\\=[-e^{-\frac{1}{7} \cdot x}]^{9}_{6}\\\\=e^{-\frac{1}{7} \cdot 6}-e^{-\frac{1}{7} \cdot 9}\\\\=0.424373-0.276453\\\\=0.14792\\\\\approx 0.148

Thus, the probability that the child must wait between 6 and 9 minutes on the bus stop on a given morning is 0.148.
