Una conducta inmoral  se refiere a consecuencias negativas para el entorno social de las personas que la realizan o para la persona misma. Algunos ejemplos pueden ser robar ya que conlleva un perjuicio contra la otra persona; ser infiel en una cultura donde se valora la fidelidad y el compromiso entre dos personas; asesinar es considerado inmoral en la mayoría de las sociedades.

Una conducta ética es aquella que la sociedad considera "correcta" o "buena". Un ejemplo de una conducta contraria a la ética sería que la persona llegara siempre tarde a su trabajo, sin respetar los horarios. Interrumpir una conversación, ser irrespetuoso e hipócrita también son ejemplos de condcutas contrarias a la ética en el ámbito personal.
