Answer:

The length of the plywood's diagonal(to the nearest tenth) is, 3.6 and 1.4

Step-by-step explanation:

let l be the length and w be the width of the rectangle respectively;

Diagonal(D) of a rectangle is given by:

D = \sqrt{l^2+w^2}                              ......[1]

As per the given statement we have;

Diagonal(D) = width + 2

and

l = 2 \times w = 2w

Now, substitute these in  [1] we have;

\sqrt{(2w)^2+w^2} = w+5

Squaring both the sides we get;

4w^2+w^2 = (w+2)^2

5w^2 = w^2 + 4 + 4w

or

5w^2 -w^2 = 4w + 4 or

4w^2= 4w + 4

Simplify:

w^2-w-1 =0                         ......[2]

The quadratic equation is in the form  of ax^2+bx+c = 0

the solution is given by:  x = \frac{-b \pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}

On comparing with [1] we get

a= 1 , b = -1 and c = -1

Then the solution is:

w= \frac{-(-1) \pm\sqrt{(-1)^2-4(1)(-1)}}{2(1)}

w =\frac{1 \pm\sqrt{1+4}}{2} = \frac{1 \pm\sqrt{5}}{2}

Simplify:

w \approx 1.62 and w \approx -0.62

Then, the diagonal D = w+2

For w \approx 1.62

D = 1.62 +2 \approx 3.62

For w \approx -0.62

D =-0.62 +2 \approx 1.38

therefore, the length of the plywood's diagonal(to the nearest tenth) is, 3.6 and 1.4

The starting salary for a particular job is 1.2 million per annum. The salary increases each year by 75000 to a maximum of 1.5mi
Vlada [557]
<h2>Answer:</h2>

In the 5th year

<h2>Step-by-step explanation:</h2>

For the first year, the salary is 1.2million = 1,200,000

For the second year, the salary is 1.2million + 75000 = 1,200,000 + 75,000 = 1,275,000

.

.

.

For the last year, the salary is 1.5million = 1,500,000

This gives the following sequence...

1,200,000 1,275,000  .   .   . 1,500,000

This follows an arithmetic progression with an increment of 75,000.

<em>Remember that,</em>

The last term, L, of an arithmetic progression is given by;

L = a + (n - 1)d           ---------------(i)

<em>Where;</em>

a = first term of the sequence

n = number of terms in the sequence (which is the number of years)

d = the common difference or increment of the sequence

<em>From the given sequence,</em>

a = 1,200,000                          [which is the first salary]

d = 75,000                               [which is the increment in salary]

L = 1,500,000                          [which is the maximum salary]

<em>Substitute these values into equation (i) as follows;</em>

1,500,000 = 1,200,00 + (n - 1) 75,000

1,500,000 - 1,200,000 = 75,000(n-1)

300,000 = 75,000(n - 1)

\frac{300,000}{75,000} = n - 1

4 = n - 1

n = 5

Therefore, in the 5th year the maximum salary will be reached.

Mrs.thapa bought 150 kg of oranges.18 kg of oranges were rotten and not fit for selling.If she sold the remaining quantity of or
kogti [31]

Answer:

Rs.64

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Amount of oranges:</u>

  • 150 kg

<u>Oranges sold:</u>

  • 150 - 18 = 132 kg

<u>Money made:</u>

  • 132* 80 = Rs. 10560

<u>Selling price of 150 kg:</u>

  • 10560/150 = Rs. 70.4

<u>Cost price:</u>

  • x+10% = 70.4
  • x*1.1= 70.4
  • x= 70.4/1.1
  • x= Rs.64
  • Cost price of oranges= Rs. 64

Which data set is least Likely to resemble a normal distribution?<br> Look at picture
kicyunya [14]

Answer: B) The heights of girls who live on a certain street in the city of Buffalo

Every answer choice starts with "the heights of all 14-year-old girls who", so we can ignore that part. Choice A describes the largest population while choice B describes the smallest population. In other words, choice A is very general and broad, while choice B is very specific and narrow. The more specific you get and the smaller the population is, the less likely its going to be normally distributed.

What is the following difference?
Svetllana [295]

Answer:

  -7ab\sqrt[3]{3ab^2}

Step-by-step explanation:

Remove perfect cubes from under the radical and combine like terms.

  2ab\sqrt[3]{192ab^2}-5\sqrt[3]{81a^4b^5}=2ab\sqrt[3]{4^3\cdot 3ab^2}-5\sqrt[3]{(3ab)^3\cdot 3ab^2}\\\\=(8ab -15ab)\sqrt[3]{3ab^2}=\boxed{-7ab\sqrt[3]{3ab^2} }
