Texting while driving is one of the most dangerous activities to engage in when driving. When driving, having to multitask becomes a threat to the physical integrity of the driver and of others, as the driver will lose attention capacity because of performing another action besides driving.

The National Safety Council has reported that cell phone use while driving leads to 1.6 million crashes each year. This statistic is not affected by the level of skill in texting that the driver has, the mere fact of texting while driving, even if the driver does not look at the phone to text, is already enough to cause an accident.
