The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act of 1930 raised tariffs on many imported goods, but then countries that traded with the United States raised their tariffs in retaliation leading to increased prices for US consumers. Tariffs can be useful economic tools that boost the sales of a domestic product, but if other countries start to retaliate it can backfire by raising prices and causing economic problems.

Answer:

Sample Response: Tariffs can be useful to help boost the demand of domestically produced goods. In the short-term, this approach can be good for the nation implementing the tariff because it can improve its production. However, this tactic can negatively impact other countries as the demand for their exports decline, causing a decline in their GDP. As seen with the Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act, countries may retaliate with tariffs of their own, causing global economic issues.

The correct option is 217%

Explanation:

Overhead applied can be  determined using the  below formula total cost formula:

The total cost of work-in-process inventory=direct material cost+direct labor cost+overhead applied

total cost of work-in-process is $11,625

direct material cost is $3,700

direct labor cost is $2,500

overhead applied is the unknown

Otrada [13]

Answer:

1. $296,050

2. $141,050

3. $330,300

4. $135,300

Explanation:

Given that,

When company produces and sells 15,500 units;

Direct materials = $ 7.40

Direct labor = $ 4.40

Variable manufacturing overhead = $ 1.90

Fixed manufacturing overhead = $ 5.40

Fixed selling expense = $ 3.90

Fixed administrative expense = $ 2.90

Sales commissions = $ 1.40

Variable administrative expense = $ 0.90

1. Total amount of product costs:

= Number of units × (Direct Material Per Unit + Direct Labor Per Unit + Variable Manufacturing Overhead + Fixed Manufacturing Overhead Per Unit)

= 15,500 × ($ 7.40 + $ 4.40 + $ 1.90 + $5.40)

= 15,500 × $19.10

= $296,050

2. Total Amount of Period Costs:

= Number of Units × (Fixed Selling Expense Per Unit + Fixed Administrative Expense Per Unit + Sales Commissions Per Unit + Variable Administrative Expense Per Unit)

= 15,500 × ($ 3.90 + $ 2.90 + $1.40 + $0.90)

= $141,050

3. Total amount of product costs at 18,000 units:

= Direct Material + Direct Labor + Variable Manufacturing Overhead + Fixed Manufacturing Overhead

= (18,000 × 7.40) + (18,000 × 4.40) + (18,000 × 1.90) + (15,500 × 5.40)

= $133,200 + $79,200 + $34,200 + $83,700

= $330,300

4. Total amount of period costs at 13,000 units:

= Fixed Selling Expense + Fixed Administrative Expense + Sales Commissions + Variable Administrative Expense

= (15,500 × $3.90) + (15,500 × $2.90) + (13,000 × $1.40) + (13,000 × $0.90)

= $60,450 + $44,950 + $18,200 + $11,700

= $135,300

Based on the following data, estimate the cost of the ending merchandise inventory:
Fittoniya [83]

Answer:

$205,000

Explanation:

Given that,

Sales = $9,250,000

Estimated gross profit rate = 36%

Beginning merchandise inventory = $180,000

Purchases (net) = $5,945,000

Merchandise available for sale = $6,125,000

Estimated cost of merchandise sold:

= Sales(net) - Gross profit

= $9,250,000 - (36% × $9,250,000)

= $9,250,000 - $3,330,000

= $5,920,000

Cost of Ending Merchandise Inventory:

= Merchandise available for sale - Estimated cost of merchandise sold

= $6,125,000 - $5,920,000

= $205,000

Select the correct answer from each drop-down menu. Read the passage. What should Milo do? What customer service skills would he
ad-work [718]

Answer:

a. Milo should disclose all the information about the product

b. Milo is showing honesty about what the customers should expect about the product

Explanation:

a.

A customer service agent is someone who offers assistance to it's customers on behalf of the company. The agent covers issues like; answers questions about the product and guides the customers on how to use the product. Customer services has become more necessary in the recent past due to advancement in communication technology and high competition. Good customer service ensures that a company can retain and get more customers to purchase it's products. When more customers purchase a product, the sales also increase significantly. More sales translates to increased profits, which is the goal of most business organizations. Some of the customer service skills that can assist a company to achieve increased sales are;

1. Communication skills: a customer service has to be able to communicate clearly to the customers to ensure effective transfer of product information.

2. Good listening skills: they need to listen attentively and play keen attention to details to ensure that all the customer's needs are met. This enhances trust.

3. Knowledge about the product: a good agent has to have extensive knowledge about the product since customers will be expecting information about the product from the agents. An agent who seems to have little information about the product will definitely lose the customer's trust.

4. Honesty: the agent has to give the customer all the information about their product even if they will lose the customer. One needs to understand that lying to the customer in most cases takes the customers trust away. But being truthful about the product, might make one lose a customer at that moment but at least the customer will have some level of trust since the agent was honest.

In our case, Milo should disclose all the information about the cruise ship including the extra charges for bottled water. The couple might decline the offer on account of it being above their price range, but they will have some trust in Milo. This trust could make the couple interested in the cruise ship at another time when they can afford it. However, if Milo decides to keep the information away from them, the customers will feel cheated and will never trust Milo again. In this way, Milo loses the customers for life as opposed to losing the customers only once.

b.

In this case, Milo is showing honesty. By disclosing all the information about the product, Milo is being honest about what the product is going to offer and it's associated price. Honesty fosters trust in customers. When a customer fully trusts you, they would rather purchase your product at a slightly higher price than settle for a product whose qualities is not guaranteed.
