An open vat in a food processing plant contains 500 L of water at 20°C and atmospheric pressure. If the water is heated to 80°C,

what will be the percentage change in its volume? If the vat has a diameter of 2 m, how much will the water level rise due to this temperature increase?

Answer:

percentage change in volume is 2.60%

water level rise is 4.138 mm

Explanation:

given data

volume of water V = 500 L

temperature T1 = 20°C

temperature T2 = 80°C

vat diameter = 2 m

to find out

percentage change in volume and how much water level rise

solution

we will apply here bulk modulus equation that is ratio of change in pressure   to rate of change of volume to change of pressure

and we know that is also in term of change in density also

so

E = -\frac{dp}{dV/V}  ................1

And -\frac{dV}{V} = \frac{d\rho}{\rho}   ............2

here ρ is density

and we know ρ  for 20°C = 998 kg/m³

and ρ  for 80°C = 972 kg/m³

so from equation 2 put all value

-\frac{dV}{V} = \frac{d\rho}{\rho}

-\frac{dV}{500*10^{-3} } = \frac{972-998}{998}

dV = 0.0130 m³

so now  % change in volume will be

dV % = -\frac{dV}{V}  × 100

dV % = -\frac{0.0130}{500*10^{-3} }  × 100

dV % = 2.60 %

so percentage change in volume is 2.60%

and

initial volume v1 = \frac{\pi }{4} *d^2*l(i)    ................3

final volume v2 = \frac{\pi }{4} *d^2*l(f)    ................4

now from equation 3 and 4 , subtract v1 by v2

v2 - v1 =  \frac{\pi }{4} *d^2*(l(f)-l(i))

dV = \frac{\pi }{4} *d^2*dl

put here all value

0.0130 = \frac{\pi }{4} *2^2*dl

dl = 0.004138 m

so water level rise is 4.138 mm

Given the following code, what indexes must be passed to the substring method to produce the new String with the value "SCORE"?
Ierofanga [76]

Answer:

For expr1 = index 5, length 5

For expr2 = index 0, length 4 and index 21, length 5

string quote = "Four score and seven years ago";

           string expr1 = quote.Substring(5, 5).ToUpper(); // "SCORE"

           string expr2 = quote.Substring(0, 4) + quote.Substring(21, 5).ToLower(); // "fouryears"

           Console.WriteLine(expr1);

           Console.WriteLine(expr2);

Explanation:

Then code is written in c# and it produces SCORE and f

Water enters a centrifugal pump axially at atmospheric pressure at a rate of 0.12 m3
goldenfox [79]

Answer:

Water enters a centrifugal pump axially at atmospheric pressure at a rate of 0.12 m3/s and at a velocity of 7 m/s, and leaves in the normal direction along the pump casing, as shown in Fig. PI3-39. Determine the force acting on the shaft (which is also the force acting on the bearing of the shaft) in the axial direction.

Step-by-step solution:

Step 1 of 5

Given data:-

The velocity of water is .

What is the mass per unit area of an 7 inch by 10 inch lead sheet that weighs 192 gm. ____________g / cm2
liq [111]

Answer:

M/A = 0.425 g/cm²

Explanation:

<u>Given the following data;</u>

Mass = 192 grams

Dimensions = 7 * 10 inches.

To find the mass per unit area;

First of all, we would determine the area of the lead sheet;

Area = 7 * 10

Area = 70 in²

<u><em>Conversion:</em></u>

1 square inch = 6.452 square centimeters

70  inches = 70 * 6.452 = 451.64 square centimeters

Next, we find the mass per unit area;

M/A = 192/451.64

<em>M/A = 0.425 g/cm²</em>

Plot the data as impact energy versus temperature: (b) Determine a ductile-to-brittle transition temperature as the temperature
Shkiper50 [21]

Question:

The following tabulated data were gathered from a series of Charpy impact tests on a commercial low-carbon steel alloy.

Temperature(∘C)50403020100-10-20-30-40Impact energy (J)76767158382314951.5

(a) Plot the data as impact energy versus temperature.

(b) Determine a ductile-to-brittle transition temperature as the temperature corresponding to the average of the maximum and minimum impact energies.

(c) Determine a ductile-to-brittle transition temperature as the temperature at which the impact energy is 20 J.

Answer:

a)  see the attached graph

b) max E = 76 and Min E =1.53 average = 77.5/2 = 38.75 J

this corresponds to about 10° C

c ) at E = 20 J temperature is about -2°C
