The Scott family is trying to save as much money as possible. One way to cut back on the money they spend is by finding deals wh

ile grocery shopping; however, the Scott family needs help determining which stores have the better deals.
1. At Grocery Mart, strawberries cost $2.99 for 2 lb., and at Baldwin Hills Market strawberries are $3.99 for 3 lb.
a. What is the unit price of strawberries at each grocery store? If necessary, round to the nearest penny.
b. If the Scott family wanted to save money, where should they go to buy strawberries? Why?

2. Potatoes are on sale at both Grocery Mart and Baldwin Hills Market. At Grocery Mart, a 5 lb. bag of potatoes cost $2.85, and at Baldwin Hills Market a 7 lb. bag of potatoes costs $4.20. Which store offers the best deal on potatoes? How do you know? How much better is the deal?

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation :

1.a. The price of 2 pound strawberries at Grocery Mart = $2.99

The price of strawberries per pound at Grocery Mart = \frac{2.99}{2}

                                                                                 = $1.495 ≈ $1.50/lb

ant the price of 3 pound strawberries at Baldwin Hills = $3.99

The price of strawberries per pound at Baldwin Hills = \frac{3.99}{3}

                                                                                       = $1.33/ lb

The unit price of strawberries at Grocery Mart is $1.50 and at Baldwin Hills is $1.33.

b. If the Scott family wanted to save money, they should go to Baldwin Hills because at Baldwin Hills the price of one pound strawberries is less than Grocery Mart.

2. The price of 5 pound bag of potatoes at Grocery Mart = $2.85

The price of 1 pound potatoes at Grocery Mart = \frac{2.85}{5}

                                                                           = $0.57/lb

The price of 7 pound bag of potatoes at Baldwin Hills = $4.20

The price of 1 pound of potatoes at Baldwin Hills = \frac{4.20}{7}

                                                                           = $0.60/lb

At grocery mart the unit price of potatoes is $0.57 and at Baldwin Hills unit price of potatoes is $0.60.

Therefore, at Grocery Mart is the better deal.

Complete Question

The complete qustion is shown on the first uploaded image

Answer:

The correct option is B

Step-by-step explanation:

From the question we are told that

      The sample size  is  n = 49

       The mean is  \mu  =  17ppb

       The standard deviation is \sigma = 14 ppb

Generally the standard error of this measurement is mathematically represented as

       \sigma_z  =  \frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n} }

substituting values

      \sigma_{\= x}  =  \frac{14}{\sqrt{49} }

     \sigma_{\= x}  =  2ppb

Now the probability that the mean lead level from the sample of 49 measurements T is less than 15 ppb represented as P(X < 15 )

Next is to find the z value

    z =  \frac{\mu -\sigma }{\sigma_{\= x}}

     z =  \frac{15-17}{2}

      z =  -1

Now checking the z-table for the z-score of  -1 we have

      P(X

Haley substituted the values of a, b, and c into the quadratic formula below. x = StartFraction negative (negative 10) plus or m
Leokris [45]

Where does that StartFraction ... mess come from? -- I've seen it in other questions.

x = \dfrac{- -10 \pm \sqrt{(-10)^2 - 4(7)(-2)}}{2(7)}

Comparing that to the general quadratic formula

x = \dfrac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}

we see b=-10 (agreeing in both places) a=7 (two places), c=-2

Which of the following are possible equations of a parabola that has no real solutions and opens downward?
bekas [8.4K]

Answer:

y =  -  {(x - 4)}^{2}  - 2

y =  -  {(x + 4)}^{2}  - 2

Step-by-step explanation:

The vertex form of a parabola is given as

y = a {(x - h)}^{2}  + k

If this parabola opens downward, then a<0.

This means for a function opening downward not to have a solution, the k value must also be negative and taking a square root of a negative number will not give real solution.

From the given options, examples of such functions are:

y =  -  {(x + 4)}^{2}  - 2

and

y =  -  {(x  - 4)}^{2}  - 2
