In the Meselson and Stahl experiment, the starting Escherichia coli culture was grown in heavy (15N) medium; the DNA was 15N15N.

After TWO generations of growth in light (14N) medium, the DNA of the E. coli cells contained
A) 25% 15N15N DNA, 50% 15N14N DNA, and 25% 14N14N DNA.
B) 25% 15N14N DNA and 75% 14N14N DNA.
C) 50% 15N14N DNA and 50% 14N14N DNA.
D) 50% 15N15N DNA and 50% 14N14N DNA.

Answer:

C) 50% 15N14N DNA and 50% 14N14N DNA.

Explanation:

Meselson and Stahl proved that DNA replication follows a semi conservative model. The strands separate from each other and new strands are synthesized so that the new DNA molecule has one parental and one new strand.

Here, originally E.coli was grown in 15N medium. So all the strands had 15N. After first generation new strands were synthesized so each DNA molecule had one 15N and one 14N strand. After second generation, the 15N strand lead to synthesis of 14N strand and the 14N strands also lead to synthesis of 14N strands. So half of the DNA molecules had 15N14N composition and other half had 14N14N composition. Thus, after two generations of growth in 14N medium, DNA of E.coli cells contained 50% 15N14N DNA and 50% 14N14N DNA.

Ainat [17]
Firstly, start by doing Punnett squares for each of the characteristics. Attached are the three Punnet squares, made by me, as they should look in end.

For each of the Punnet squares, one characteristic each, we find that half of the offspring will be heterozygous for that characteristic.
Therefore, according to the product rule, you should now multiply the quantity of heterozygous for each characteristic and then obtain the total part of the offspring that's fully heterozygous.

\frac{1}{2}Ss×\frac{1}{2}Ll×\frac{1}{2}Rr=\frac{1}{8}SsLlRr

Total offspring×\frac{1}{8}=10
There is 10 plants in the total offspring that are heterozygous for all the considered three genes.

When a virus infects a bacterial cell, often new viruses are assembled and released when the host bacterial cell is lysed. If th
Andreas93 [3]

Answer:

D) The virus has entered the genome of the bacterial cell and is in the lysogenic stage.

Explanation:

Virus have two reproductive cycle lytic and lysogenic cycles. In the lytic cycle, the viral genome is expressed using the host molecular machinery and make capsid proteins. These capsid proteins surround the viral genome and make new phages which lyse the host cell and gets released.

After the release, they enter their genome in other host and that genome first incorporates in the host genome and replicates with the host genome. This cycle is called the lysogenic cycle and in this cycle lysis of cell does take place because no new phages are produced in it.

Finger [1]

In this case, when Alicia is being tickled by her older sister, the divisions of the nervous system which are responsible for receiving the signals from her sister’s fingers are called somatosensory cortex and anterior cingulated cortex nervous system.

When you are touched lightly, the effect of having that ticklish sensation is caused by the analysis of two regions of the brain. For example, when our brain analyses the pressure of the touch, this is the work of the somatosensory cortex. On the other hand, as soon as something touches your skin, the signal sent from the skin's sensory receptors also passes through the anterior cingulated cortex. This is where the pleasant feelings are governed.

Answer:

Explanation:Twenty fruit flies are placed in each of four glass tubes. The tubes are sealed. Tubes I and II are partially covered with black paper; Tubes III and IV are not covered. The tubes are placed as shown. Then they are exposed to blue light for five minutes. The number of flies in the uncovered part of each tube is shown in the drawing.

These data show that these flies respond to (respond means move to or away from):

You work for the WWF. Write a letter to the mayor of a small farm town to explain why this town is experiencing erosion, and why
horrorfan [7]

The letter should contain concerns about the causes and ill effects of erosion.

Explanation:

Sir,

I am very sad to inform you that the town of Hariharanpur is suffering from continuous erosion for the last 3 years. Even after having proper knowledge about this fact, you being the mayor, are not taking any charge of this situation.

The town is situated just by the side of River Ganges which makes it's soil full of moisture. Along with the repeated deforestation and tree cutting for urbanisation, the smallest of the rain falls are also eroding a lot of soils. This can lead to severe landslides in river Ganges with severe loss of properties as well as loss of lives too.

So i request you to start embanking the river as well as to start planting new trees to save the town from getting lost under Ganges.

Thanking you,

XYZ.
