In a particular human family, John and his mother both have brachydactyly (a rare autosomal dominant allele causing short finger

s). John’s father has Huntington disease (another rare autosomal dominant allele). John’s wife is phenotypically normal and is pregnant. Two-thirds of people who inherit the Huntington (HD) allele show symptoms by age 50, and John is 50 and has no symptoms. Brachydactyly is 90% penetrant.

Answer:

Brachydactyly and Huntington are phenotypic diseases that develop when a person has one or two dominant alleles for these traits.

John's father has the Huntington disease, but not brachydactyly so his genotype is Hh/bb.

John's mother is a healthy women with brachydactyly, so her's genotype is probably hh/BB or hh/Bb.

No their babies won't look alike.

Explanation:

Both the couples mentioned here i.e. Sally - Harry and Emily - Ken are both identical twins. So they have similar pairs of genetic setup. This was possible because they developed from same zygote.

But during gametogenesis, crossing over and independent assortment occurs which brings about variation in genetic setup among the offspring. And it's very less probable that same crossing over will occur between the gametes of these couples. So, their offsprings won't look same.

Explanation:

Carbohydrates are one of the important biomolecule present on the earth. they are made up of carbon(C), hydrogen(H) and oxygen (O) in 2:1 ratio.

The carbohydrates play significant roles in organisms as:

1. Source of energy : undergo breakdown to provide energy.

2. Storage form: glycogen in animals and starch in plants.

3. Structural role: cellulose in plant cell wall provide the structural hardness and rigidity to the cell wall. Cellulose is a polysaccharide formed by the polymerization of D-glucose via f β-1,4 linkage in linear fashion.
