Osmosis is the process responsible for carrying nutrients and water from groundwater supplies to the upper parts of trees. The o

smotic pressures required for this process can be as high as 18.1 atm . What would the molar concentration of the tree sap have to be to achieve this pressure on a day when the temperature is 22 ∘C?

Answer:

0.749 M

Explanation:

To solve this problem we use the formula

 • P = M * R * T

Where P is the osmotic pressure, M is the molar concentration, T is the temperature (in K) and R is the ideal gas constant 0.082 atm·L·mol⁻¹·K⁻¹

We put the data given by the problem and solve for M:

 • M = P /(R*T)
 • M = 18.1 atm / ( 0.082 atm·L·mol⁻¹·K⁻¹ * 295.16 K)
 • M = 0.749 M

Exactly 17.0 mL of a H2SO4 solution was required to neutralize 45.0 mL of 0.235 M NaOH. What was the concentration of the H2SO4
aleksandr82 [10.1K]

Answer:

Molarity for the sulfuric acid is 0.622 M

Explanation:

When we neutralize an acid with a base, molarity of both . both volume are the same. The formula is:

M acid . volume of acid = M base . volume of base

M acid = unknown

Volume of acid = 17 mL

Volume of base = 45 mL

M base = 0.235 M

Therefore, we replace: M acid . 17 mL = 0.235 M . 45 mL

M acid = (0.235 M . 45 mL) / 17 mL

M acid = 0.622 M

What is the predicted order of first ionization energies from highest to lowest for beryllium, calcium, magnesium, and strontium
Svetach [21]
We can predict the order of the elements given above according from the highest to lowest first ionization energies by using the trends in a periodic table. For elements in a family, the ionization energy decreases as it goes down. Therefore, the correct order would be Be, Mg, Ca, Sr.

What is the sequence of energy transformations that occur in a nuclear reactor? nuclear energy Right arrow. Mechanical energy Ri
Mademuasel [1]

Answer:

NUCLEAR ENERGY -----> MECHANICAL ENERGY -------> THERMAL ENERGY --------> ELECTRICAL ENERGY

Explanation:

In nuclear reactor, various energy transformations occur in order to generate electricity. Nuclear reactor converts the energy released from nuclear fission and the heat generated is removed from the reactor by a cooling system where steam is generated. The steam then drives a turbine which powers a generator to produce electricity.

A nuclear reactor is hence an equipment where nuclear chain reactions occur and control can be obtained. The nuclear reactor uses mostly uranium-235 and Plutonium-239. When these radioactive substances absorbs neutrons, they undergo nuclear fission causing the nucleus to split into two or more smaller compounds with the release of kinetic energy a form of mechanical energy, gamma radiations and others. The kinetic energy is then harnessed in the equipment as heat (thermal energy) which is received by a cooling system and steam is generated. The steam can then power the generator from which electricity is obtained (electrical energy).

So therefore, in a nuclear reactor, the nuclear energy is transformed to mechanical energy and then thermal energy which powers the generation of the electrical energy.
