A music school has budgeted to purchase 3 musical instruments. They plan to purchase a piano costing $4,000, a guitar costing $6

00, and a drum set costing $750. The mean cost for a piano is $4,500 with a standard deviation of $2,500. The mean cost for a guitar is $500 with a standard deviation of $200. The mean cost for drums is $850 with a standard deviation of $100. (Enter your answers to two decimal places.)
1.) How many standard deviations above or below the average piano cost is the piano?

2.) How many standard deviations above or below the average guitar cost is the guitar?

3.) How many standard deviations above or below the average drum set cost is the drum set?

4.) Which cost is the lowest, when compared to other instruments of the same type?

5.) Which cost is the highest when compared to other instruments of the same type?

Answer:

1) z=\frac{4000-4500}{2500}=-0.2

That means 0.2 deviations below the mean

2) z=\frac{600-500}{200}=0.5

That means 0.5 deviations above the mean

3) z=\frac{750-850}{100}=-1

That means 1 deviations below the mean

4) For this case the lowest instrument compared to the other instruments of the same type is the drum set since have the lowest z score z =-1

5) For this case the highest instrument compared to the other instruments of the same type is guitar since have the highest z score z =0.5

Step-by-step explanation:

They plan to purchase a piano costing $4,000, a guitar costing $600, and a drum set costing $750.

Previous concepts

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

The Z-score is "a numerical measurement used in statistics of a value's relationship to the mean (average) of a group of values, measured in terms of standard deviations from the mean".

Part 1

Let X the random variable that represent the cost of for a piano, and for this case we know this

Where \mu=4500 and \sigma=2500

And the best way to solve this problem is using the normal standard distribution and the z score given by:

z=\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}

If we replace the formula for X= 4000 we got:

z=\frac{4000-4500}{2500}=-0.2

That means 0.2 deviations below the mean

Part 2

Let X the random variable that represent the cost of for a guitar, and for this case we know this

Where \mu=500 and \sigma=200

And the best way to solve this problem is using the normal standard distribution and the z score given by:

z=\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}

If we replace the formula for X= 600 we got:

z=\frac{600-500}{200}=0.5

That means 0.5 deviations above the mean

Part 3

Let X the random variable that represent the cost of for drum set, and for this case we know this

Where \mu=850 and \sigma=100

And the best way to solve this problem is using the normal standard distribution and the z score given by:

z=\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}

If we replace the formula for X= 750 we got:

z=\frac{750-850}{100}=-1

That means 1 deviations below the mean

Part 4

For this case the lowest instrument compared to the other instruments of the same type is the drum set since have the lowest z score z =-1

Part 5

For this case the highest instrument compared to the other instruments of the same type is guitar since have the highest z score z =0.5

Kevin opened a savings account with Texas National Bank. His account has an APR of 1.95% compounded quarterly. If Kevin opens hi
ELEN [110]

Answer:

82 years and 3 quarters

Step-by-step explanation:

A = P (1 + r / n)ⁿˣ

P = Principal amount

r = Annual interest rate

n = Number of compounds per year

x = time in years

A = Amount after time 'x'

10500 = 2100 (1 + 0.0195 / 4)⁴ˣ

Divide the whole equation by 2100

10500 / 2100 = ({2100 (1 + 0.004875)} / 2100 )⁴ˣ

5 = (1.004875)⁴ˣ

Taking Natural logarithm (㏑) on both sides

㏑ 5 = ㏑ (1.004875)⁴ˣ

㏑ 5 = 4x ㏑ (1.004875)

1.6094 = 4x (0.004863)

1.6094 = 0.01945x

x = 82.75

So, If compounded quarterly at an APR of 1.95% the amount deposited in savings account of $2100 will accumulate to $10500 in 82 years and 3 quarters.

8090 [49]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

<u><em>Step(i):-</em></u>

<em>Given first random sample size n₁ = 500</em>

Given  Roper survey reported that 65 out of 500 women ages 18-29 said that they had the most say when purchasing a computer.

<em>First sample proportion </em>

<em>                              </em>p^{-} _{1} = \frac{65}{500} = 0.13

<em>Given second sample size n₂ = 700</em>

<em>Given a sample of 700 men (unrelated to the women) ages 18-29 found that 133 men said that they had the most say when purchasing a computer.</em>

<em>second sample proportion </em>

<em>                              </em>p^{-} _{2} = \frac{133}{700} = 0.19

<em>Level of significance = α = 0.05</em>

<em>critical value = 1.96</em>

<u><em>Step(ii)</em></u><em>:-</em>

<em>Null hypothesis : H₀: There  is no significance difference between these proportions</em>

<em>Alternative Hypothesis :H₁: There  is significance difference between these proportions</em>

<em>Test statistic </em>

<em></em>Z = \frac{p_{1} ^{-}-p^{-} _{2}  }{\sqrt{PQ(\frac{1}{n_{1} } +\frac{1}{n_{2} } )} }<em></em>

<em>where </em>

<em>         </em>P = \frac{n_{1} p^{-} _{1}+n_{2} p^{-} _{2}  }{n_{1}+ n_{2}  } = \frac{500 X 0.13+700 X0.19  }{500 + 700 } = 0.165<em></em>

<em>        Q = 1 - P = 1 - 0.165 = 0.835</em>

<em></em>Z = \frac{0.13-0.19  }{\sqrt{0.165 X0.835(\frac{1}{500 } +\frac{1}{700 } )} }<em></em>

<em>Z =  -2.76</em>

<em>|Z| = |-2.76| = 2.76 > 1.96 at 0.05 level of significance</em>

<em>Null hypothesis is rejected at 0.05 level of significance</em>

<em>Alternative hypothesis is accepted at 0.05 level of significance</em>

<u><em>Conclusion:</em></u><em>-</em>

<em>There is there is a difference between these proportions at α = 0.05</em>
