A catalyst could be added to speed up the dimerization of NO2. If a catalyst is added to the syringe with 30 mL of the brown gas

(which is an equilibrium mixture of NO2 and N2O4) , what change would be observed and why?

Answer:

No change in color of mixture and in an equilibrium will be observed.

Explanation:

Any change in the equilibrium is studied on the basis of Le-Chatelier's principle:

This principle states that if there is any change in the variables of the reaction, the equilibrium will shift in the direction to minimize the effect.

On an addition of catalyst increases the rate of froward and backward direction,. This leads to rapid attainment of equilibrium without disturbing it. Hence, addition of catalyst will not change the equilibrium of the reaction.

2NO_2(g)\rightleftharpoons N_2O_4(g)

So, when catalyst is added to speedup the dimerization of nitrogen dioxide( brown color) it will the equilibrium state of the reaction but it will increase the rate of forward and backward reaction. So no change in color of mixture and in an equilibrium will be observed.

SEP Use Models Why does the number of electrons in each principal energy shell increase as the number of the shell increases?
zlopas [31]

Answer:

See explanation

Explanation:

The number of electrons in each principal energy shell increases as the number of shells increases because more electronic orbitals become available to accommodate the electrons.

For instance, the n= 2 level only accommodates eight electrons in the s and p orbitals whereas the n=3 level accommodates 18 electrons in s, p and d orbitals respectively.

Each principal level accommodates 2n^2 electrons where n= the principal energy shell.

Which is the correctly balanced chemical equation for the reaction of KOH and H2SO4? Upper K upper O upper H right arrow upper H
sertanlavr [38]

Answer :

The balanced chemical reaction will be,

H_2SO_4+2KOH\rightarrow K_2SO_4+2H_2O

Explanation :

Balanced chemical reaction : It is defined as the reaction in which the number of atoms of individual elements present on reactant side must be equal to the product side.

If the amount of atoms of each type on the left and right sides of a reaction differs then to balance the equation by adding coefficient in the front of the elements or molecule or compound in the chemical equation.

The coefficient tell us about that how many molecules or atoms present in the chemical equation.

When sulfuric acid react with potassium hydroxide then it react to give potassium sulfate and water as a product. This reaction is known as acid-base reaction.

The balanced chemical reaction will be,

H_2SO_4+2KOH\rightarrow K_2SO_4+2H_2O

Calculate the pH of each of following buffered solutions.?a. 0.10 M acetic acid/0.25 M sodium acetate b. 0.25 M acetic acid/0.10
Masteriza [31]

Answer:

a. 5.10.

b. 4.35.

c. 5.10.

d. 4.35.

Explanation:

a. 0.10 M acetic acid/0.25 M sodium acetate

For acidic buffer:

∵ pH = pKa + log [salt]/[Acid]

∴ pH = - log(Ka) + log [salt]/[Acid]

Ka for acetic acid = 1.8 x 10⁻⁵.

∴ pH = - log(1.8 x 10⁻⁵) + log(0.25)/(0.10)

∴ pH = 4.744 + 0.34 = 5.084 ≅ 5.10.

b. 0.25 M acetic acid/0.10 M sodium acetate

For acidic buffer:

∵ pH = pKa + log [salt]/[Acid]

∴ pH = - log(Ka) + log [salt]/[Acid]

Ka for acetic acid = 1.8 x 10⁻⁵.

∴ pH = - log(1.8 x 10⁻⁵) + log(0.10)/(0.25)

∴ pH = 4.744 - 0.34 = 4.346 ≅ 4.35.

c. 0.080 M acetic acid/0.20 M sodium acetate

For acidic buffer:

∵ pH = pKa + log [salt]/[Acid]

∴ pH = - log(Ka) + log [salt]/[Acid]

Ka for acetic acid = 1.8 x 10⁻⁵.

∴ pH = - log(1.8 x 10⁻⁵) + log(0.20)/(0.08)

∴ pH = 4.744 + 0.34 = 5.084 ≅ 5.10.

d. 0.20 M acetic acid/0.080 M sodium acetate

For acidic buffer:

∵ pH = pKa + log [salt]/[Acid]

∴ pH = - log(Ka) + log [salt]/[Acid]

Ka for acetic acid = 1.8 x 10⁻⁵.

∴ pH = - log(1.8 x 10⁻⁵) + log(0.08)/(0.20)

∴ pH = 4.744 - 0.34 = 4.346 ≅ 4.35.

how are pure carbon, oxygen and hydrogen different from the compound ethanol which contains all three of those elements?
DENIUS [597]
Carbon, oxygen, & hydrogen may all be elements found in ethanol, but when separated, they have completely different chemical compounds. They are pure elements where as ethanol is a mixture.

The state of water is determined solely by the conditions of _____.
Elenna [48]

Answer:

The state of water is determined solely by the conditions of pressure and temperature.

Explanation:

Effect of Temperature:

Temperature has direct effect on the kinetic energy of water molecules. Greater the Temperature greater is the K.E of molecules and lesser is the intermolecular forces between molecules. Therefore, at temperature below 0 °C water exists in solid state, at temperature in between 0 and 100 °C it exists in liquid state and (at sea level) and above 100 °C it exists in vapor state.

Effect of Pressure:

The state of water is also influenced by the external pressure. For example, water can be converted into gas phase by reducing the external pressure (this technique is used in vacuum distillation where solvents are evaporated at temperatures lower than their boiling points) and also, the water can remain in liquid state even above 100 °C if the external pressure is increases (this method is being utilized in daily use pressure cookers).
