Answer:

The steel bed will contract by  0.13 m, and expand by 0.052 m

Explanation:

For contraction,

α = ΔL/(LΔθ)..................... Equation 1

Where α = Linear expansivity of  steel, ΔL = decrease in length/ Increase in length, L = Original length, Δθ = Change in temperature

make ΔL the subject of the equation

ΔL = α(LΔθ)................. Equation 2

Given: α = 13×10⁻⁶/C, L = 200 m, Δθ = -30-20 = -50 °C

Substitute into equation 2

ΔL = 13×10⁻⁶(200)(-50)

ΔL = -0.13 m

Similarly, For expansion,

Using equation 2

ΔL =  α(LΔθ)

Given: α = 13×10⁻⁶/C, L = 200 m, Δθ = 40-20 = 20  °C

Substitute into equation 2

ΔL =  13×10⁻⁶(200)(20)

ΔL = 0.052 m.

Hence the steel bed will contract by  0.13 m, and expand by 0.052 m

In a car crash, large accelerations of the head can lead to severe injuries or even death. A driver can probably survive an acce
Mandarinka [93]

Answer:

0.22 m

Explanation:

We are told that the driver can survive an acceleration of 50g only if the collision lasts no longer than 30 ms. So,

t = 30 ms = 0.030 s

The acceleration is

a=-50g = -50(9.8)=-490 m/s^2

where the negative sign is due to the fact that this is a deceleration, since the driver comes to a stop in the collision.

First of all, we can find what the initial velocity of the car should be in this conditions by using the equation:

v=u+at

And since the final velocity is zero, v=0, and solving for u,

u=-at=-490(0.030)=14.7 m/s

And now we can find the corresponding distance travelled using the equation:

d=ut+\frac{1}{2}at^2 = (14.7)(0.030)+\frac{1}{2}(-490)(0.030)^2=0.22 m

The number of gallons of water in a storage tank at time t, in minutes, is modeled by w(t) = 25 − t2 for 0≤t≤5. At what rate, in
Kisachek [45]

Answer:

Rate of change of water will be -6 gallon/minute

Explanation:

We have given water in the tank as the function of time as

w(t)=25-t^2

We have to find the rate of change of water in the tank at t = 3 minute

For rate of change we have to differentiate both side

So \frac{dw}{dt}=0-2t

At t = 3 minute

\frac{dw}{dt}=0-2\times 3=-6gallon/minute

A particle moves along a straight line with a velocity in meters per second given by v = 12 - 3t + 8t, where t is in seconds. Wh
elena-14-01-66 [18.8K]

Answer:

Explanation:

Given the velocity of a particle modeled by the equation

v = 13-3t+8t² where t is in seconds

Given t = 0 and position s = +5m

A) To get the position as a function of time, we will integrate the function with respect to t ad shown;

v = 13-3t+8t²

S = ∫13-3t+8t² dt

S = 13t-13t²/2+8t³/3 + C

at t = 0 and S = +5m

5 = 13(0)-13(0)²/2+8(0)³/3+C

5 = 0-0+0+C

C = 5

Substituting c = 5 into the displacement function

S = 13t-13t²/2+8t³/3 + C

S = 13t-13t²/2+8t³/3 + 5

B) acceleration is the change in velocity with respect to time.

a = dv/dt

Given v = 13-3t+8t²

a= dv/dt = -3+16t

a = 16-3t

C) acceleration at t = 6s is derived by plugging in t = 6 into the resulting equations in (B)

a = 16-3t

a = 16-3(6)

a = 16-18

a = -2m/s²

D) net displacement from t = 0 to t = 6s

At t = 0:

S(0) = 13(0)-13(0)²/2+8(0)³/3 + 5

S(0) = 0+5

S(0) = 5m

At t = 6s

S(6) = 13(6)-13(6)²/2+8(6)³/3 + 5

S(6) = 78-234+576+5

S(6) = 425m

Net displacement from t = 0s to t = 6s is s(6)-s(0)

= 425-5

= 420m

E) Total distance travelled D = S(6)+S(0)

= 425+5

= 430m

F) Average velocity = ∆S/∆t

Average velocity = S(6)-S(0)/6-0

Average velocity = 425-5/6

Average velocity = 420/6

Average velocity = 70m/s
