A beam of unpolarized light with intensity I0 falls first upon a polarizer with transmission axis θTA,1 then upon a second polar

izer with transmission axis θTA,2, where θTA,2−θTA,1=90degrees (in other words the two axes are perpendicular to one another). What is the intensity I2 of the light beam emerging from the second polarizer?

Answer:

The intensity I₂ of the light beam emerging from the second polarizer is zero.

Explanation:

Given:

Intensity of first polarizer = Io/2

For the second polarizer, the intensity is equal:

I_{2} =\frac{I_{o} }{2} (cos\theta )^{2} =\frac{I_{o} }{2} (cos90)^{2} =0

A cylindrical bar of steel 10.1 mm (0.3976 in.) in diameter is to be deformed elastically by application of a force along the ba
amm1812

Answer:

14778.29 N

Explanation:

Diameter, d=10.1mm= 10.1*10^{-3}m

Since stress, \sigma= \frac {F}{A} where F is force, A is area and since specimen is cylindrical,

A= \pi *(d/2)^{2}  Therefore, \sigma= \frac {F}{\pi*(0.5d)^{2}}

Also strain \epsilon= \frac { \triangle L}{L} where L is length

Poison’s ratio,v is the ratio of lateral strain to longitudinal strain hence

V= -\frac {\epsilon_{x}}{\epsilon_{z}}= \frac {\triangle dl_{o}}{d \triangle l}

From Hooke’s law, \sigma=E \epsilon_{z}

Conclusively, E* \epsilon_{z}=E* \frac {- \epsilon_{x}}{v}=\frac {F}{\pi*(0.5d)^{2}}

\frac {4F}{ \pi *d^{2}}=- \frac {E \triangle d}{vd}

F=- \frac {\pi *Ed \triangle d}{4v}

F= - \frac {\pi *207*10^{9} *10.1*10^{-3}* (-2.7*10^{-6})}{4*0.3}= 14778.29N

Therefore, required force F is 14778.29 N

a shopper pushes a cart 40.0m south down one aisle and then turns 90.0 degrees and moves 15.0m. He then makes another 90.0 degre
valentinak56 [21]

Answer:

Explanation:

The displacement is the distnce of the shopper from the starting point.

Sum of movement along the vertical = 40-20 = 20m

Movement along the horizontal (x direction) = 15.0m

Displacement will be gotten using the pythagoras theorem.

d = √20²+ 15²

d = √400+225

d = √625

d = 25.0m

Hence the shoppers total displacement is 25.0m

Draw the vector C⃗ =1.5A⃗ −3B⃗ . The length and orientation of the vector will be graded. The location of the vector is not impo
Nutka1998 [239]
I made the drawing in the attached file.

I included two figures.

The upper figure shows the effect of:

- multiplying vector A times 1.5.
 It is drawn in red with dotted line.

- multiplying vector B times - 3 .
It is drawn in purple with dotted line.

In the lower figure you have the resultant vector: C = 1.5A - 3B.

The method is that you translate the tail of the vector -3B unitl the point of the vector 1,5A, preserving the angles.

Then you draw the arrow that joins the tail of 1,5A with the point of -3B after translation.

The resultant arrow is the vector C and it is drawn in black dotted line.

4. A cylindrical tube has a length of 14.4cm and a radius of 1.5cm and is filled with a colorless gas. If the density of the gas
professor190 [17]

Answer:

Mass, m of gas is 0.2504 grams.

Explanation:

First, we need to solve for the volume of the cylindrical tube.

Volume of cylinder is given by the formula;

V = 2\Pi r^{2}h

Where, V represents volume.

π represents pie

r represents radius.

h represents height or length.

Given the following data;

Radius, r = 1.5cm

Length, h = 14.4cm

Density, d = 0.00123g/cm³

Substituting into the equation;

V = 2 * 3.142 * (1.5)^{2}14.4

V = 2 * 3.142 * 2.25 * 14.4

V = 203. 6016

Therefore, the volume of the cylindrical tube is 203. 6016cm³

Density can be defined as mass all over the volume of an object.

Simply stated, density is mass per unit volume of an object.

Mathematically, density is given by the formula;

Density = \frac{mass}{volume}

Mass = density  *  volume

Substituting into the equation, we have;

Mass = 0.00123 * 203. 6016

Mass = 0.2504g.
