n Drosophila melanogaster, forked bristles are caused by an allele (Xf) that is X linked and recessive to an allele for normal b

ristles (X+). Brown eyes are caused by an allele (b) that is autosomal and recessive to an allele for red eyes (b+). A female fly that is homozygous for normal bristles and red eyes mates with a male fly that has forked bristles and brown eyes. The F1 are intercrossed to produce the F2. What will the proportions of the F2 flies be (male with red eyes and forked bristles) from the cross?

Answer:

Proportion of the F2 male with red eyes and forked bristle will be 1/4

Explanation:

forked bristles are caused by an allele (Xf) that is X linked and recessive to an allele for normal bristles (X+).

Brown eyes are caused by an allele (b) that is autosomal and recessive to an allele for red eyes (b+)

A female fly that is homozygous for normal bristles and red eyes mates with a male fly that has forked bristles and brown eyes

    X+X+b+b+  x    Xfbb

the F1 gives   1/2X+Xf 1/2b+b

                      1/2X+Y  1/2b+b

intercross of F1

Proportion of the F2 male with red eyes and forked bristle will be

      forked bristle= Xfy = 1/2 and for red eyes  2/4= 1/2  = 1/2x1/2 =1/4

7nadin3 [17]

1.Mitosis is done by your body cells. What types of cells do not undergo mitosis?

Sperm cells and egg cells do not undergo mitosis. They undergo a different process of cell division called meiosis. The difference between the two types of cell division is that mitosis result in a replication of the parent cell or identical cells. Meiosis contributes to genetic variety, meaning the resulting cells are different from the parent cell in some way.

2.Describe  ways that mitosis is important for your body.

Mitosis is important for growth. Mitosis creates new cells as you grow. If you think about it, where do we get all the extra skin, longer bones, longer hair—they result from the division of cells which create new cells.

Another way it is important is in repair. When you get a cut for example, mitosis helps by producing more cells to repair the gash that was left. New cells fill in the part that was cut. Mitosis also helps with replacing worn out cells.

3. This illustration is trying to demonstrate something that mitosis is not. In mitosis, the cells that are created are identical.

The illustration shows that one type of cell produces a different type, but it is not the case with mitosis. The resulting cells of this type of cell division is identical or twins.

4.Mitosis is just one small part of the cell cycle! Describe what would occur if cells were in mitosis more than they were in interphase.

Interphase makes up most of the cell cycle, it makes up about 90% and mitosis occurs in 10% of the whole cycle.  If cells were in mitosis more than they were in interphase that would indicate an uncontrollable and rapid growth of cells and you can get cancer.

5.When cells are dividing, it is important to understand that they have to move chromosomes equally to both cells. Based on this illustration, describe what a chromosome is made of.

Chromosomes are condensed units found in the nucleus. There are 46 chromosomes each nucleus, or each cell. Chromosomes are made up of protein and DNA. DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid and it carries genetic information.

6. In humans, there are 46 chromosomes. They are duplicated during interphase, which in turn duplicates the DNA as well. Chromosomes are counted based on the number of centromeres. The number of chromosomes in living organisms or species differ from each other.

Which of the following options best depicts the flow of information when a gene directs the synthesis of a cellular component? A
tangare [24]

Answer:

B) DNA → RNA → protein

Explanation:

  • Gene directs the synthesis of a cellular component through what is called gene expression.
  • During gene expression, information from the DNA is used to synthesis proteins, through the process of transcription followed by translation.
  • Transcription is the process that involves use of information carried by DNA to generate messenger RNA, in the nucleus of a cell. Then translation which uses the information carried by the mRNA to generate proteins in the organelles known as ribosomes.

What is the second great discovery of genetics?
Sonbull [250]

Answer:

Genes on chromosomes

Explanation:

It has been conclusively established that chromosomes contain the hereditary material or factors that are transmitted from parent to offspring. These factors are called genes. A gene is a short portion of a DNA molecule and is chemical in nature. A gene codes for a specific protein by specifying the order in which the amino acids are linked together.

Which is a mark of a galaxy formed by collapse?(1 point)
zhuklara [117]

Answer:

Same age stars is a mark of Galaxy formed by collapse

Explanation:

Before a galaxy can be formed, the materials that help in building the galaxy rotate at a speed, it's the come together and collapse by it self due to it's gravitational pull. When it's collapse globular are formed and it's away from it's nucleus. The clusters this give rise Halo stars which are stars of the same age.
