A manufacturer produces light bulbs that have a mean life of at least 500 hours when the production process is working properly.

Based on past experience, the population standard deviation is 50 hours and the light bulb life is normally distributed. The operations manager stops the production process if there is evidence that the population mean light bulb life is below 500 hours. if you select a sample of 100 light bulbs and find mean bulb life is 490 hours. Perform the hypothesis test at the significance level of 0.01. Referring to Scenario 9-10, what is the test statistic

Answer:

We conclude that the population mean light bulb life is at least 500 hours at the significance level of 0.01.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that a manufacturer produces light bulbs that have a mean life of at least 500 hours when the production process is working properly. The population standard deviation is 50 hours and the light bulb life is normally distributed.

You select a sample of 100 light bulbs and find mean bulb life is 490 hours.

Let \mu = <u><em>population mean light bulb life.</em></u>

So, Null Hypothesis, H_0 : \mu \geq 500 hours      {means that the population mean light bulb life is at least 500 hours}

Alternate Hypothesis, H_A : \mu < 500 hours     {means that the population mean light bulb life is below 500 hours}

The test statistics that would be used here <u>One-sample z test statistics</u> as we know about the population standard deviation;

                           T.S. =  \frac{\bar X-\mu}{\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n} } }  ~ N(0,1)

where, \bar X = sample mean bulb life = 490 hours

           σ = population standard deviation = 50 hours

           n = sample of light bulbs = 100

So, <u><em>the test statistics</em></u>  =  \frac{490-500}{\frac{50}{\sqrt{100} } }

                                     =  -2

The value of z test statistics is -2.

<u>Now, at 0.01 significance level the z table gives critical value of -2.33 for left-tailed test.</u>

Since our test statistic is higher than the critical value of z as -2 > -2.33, so we have insufficient evidence to reject our null hypothesis as it will not fall in the rejection region due to which <u>we fail to reject our null hypothesis.</u>

Therefore, we conclude that the population mean light bulb life is at least 500 hours.

How to factorise 5h^2-12hg
bonufazy [111]

Answer:

h(5h-12g)

Step-by-step explanation:

5h^2-12hg

When we factor expressions, we look for factors within the terms that are alike, or in other words, we look for common factors. Here, 5h^2 and 12hg only have one common factor: h. Therefore, to factorize this expression, divide both terms by h.

= h(\frac{5h^2}{h}-\frac{12hg}{h}  )\\= h(5h-12g)

Now, we've "carried" h out of the expression and have therefore factored it.

I hope this helps!

Terry has a large bucket of water. He uses 2.25 gal to
Novosadov [1.4K]

Answer:

I think the answer is  3.47

Step-by-step explanation:

Terry starts out with 2.25 gallons, and he uses 1.33 so you subtract these so he has .92 gallons left. He adds 4.8 gallons so you add 4.8 to .92 and get 5.72 gallons total in the bucket... If the question is asking how much change between the beginning and end I would say 5.72- 2.25= 3.47

Which of the following are solutions to the equation sinx cosx = 1/4? Check all that apply.
N76 [4]
The solution is <span>B. π/12+nπ

</span>proof
sinx cosx = 1/4 is equivalent to  2 <span>sinx cosx = 1/2 or sin2x =1/2
so 2x = arcsin(1/2) = </span>π/6 + 2nπ,  so x = π/12+nπ

A box contains 5 red and 5 blue marbles. Two marbles are withdrawn randomly. If they are the same color, then you win $1.10; if
topjm [15]

Answer:

a) The expected value is \frac{-1}{15}

b) The variance is  \frac{49}{45}

Step-by-step explanation:

We can assume that both marbles are withdrawn at the same time. We will define the probability as follows

#events of interest/total number of events.

We have 10 marbles in total. The number of different ways in which we can withdrawn 2 marbles out of 10 is \binom{10}{2}.

Consider the case in which we choose two of the same color. That is, out of 5, we pick 2. The different ways of choosing 2 out of 5 is \binom{5}{2}. Since we have 2 colors, we can either choose 2 of them blue or 2 of the red, so the total number of ways of choosing is just the double.

Consider the case in which we choose one of each color. Then, out of 5 we pick 1. So, the total number of ways in which we pick 1 of each color is \binom{5}{1}\cdot \binom{5}{1}. So, we define the following probabilities.

Probability of winning: \frac{2\binom{5}{2}}{\binom{10}{2}}= \frac{4}{9}

Probability of losing \frac{(\binom{5}{1})^2}{\binom{10}{2}}\frac{5}{9}

Let X be the expected value of the amount you can win. Then,

E(X) = 1.10*probability of winning - 1 probability of losing =1.10\cdot  \frac{4}{9}-\frac{5}{9}=\frac{-1}{15}

Consider the expected value of the square of the amount you can win, Then

E(X^2) = (1.10^2)*probability of winning + probability of losing =1.10^2\cdot  \frac{4}{9}+\frac{5}{9}=\frac{82}{75}

We will use the following formula

Var(X) = E(X^2)-E(X)^2

Thus

Var(X) = \frac{82}{75}-(\frac{-1}{15})^2 = \frac{49}{45}
