"Enter your answer in the provided box. A person's blood alcohol (C2H5OH) level can be determined by titrating a sample of blood

plasma with a potassium dichromate solution. The balanced equation is 16H+(aq) + 2Cr2O72−(aq) + C2H5OH(aq) → 4Cr3+(aq) + 2CO2(g) + 11H2O(l) If 35.46 mL of 0.05961 M Cr2O72− is required to titrate 28.40 g of plasma, what is the mass percent of alcohol in the blood?"

Answer:

0.1714 (w/w) %

Explanation:

Using the equation:

16H+(aq) + 2Cr2O72−(aq) + C2H5OH(aq) → 4Cr3+(aq) + 2CO2(g) + 11H2O(l)

2 moles of dichromate ion (Cr₂O₇²⁻) are used to titrate 1 mole of alcohol (C₂H₅OH)

35.46mL = 0.03546L of a 0.05961M Cr₂O₇²⁻ solution used to reach the equivalence point in the titration contains:

0.03546L ₓ (0.05961 moles Cr₂O₇²⁻ / L) = 2.114x10⁻³ moles Cr₂O₇²⁻

As 2 moles of dichromate reacts per mole of alcohol, moles of alcohol in the sample of plasma are:

2.114x10⁻³ moles Cr₂O₇²⁻ ₓ ( 1 mole C₂H₅OH / 2 moles Cr₂O₇²⁻) = 1.0569x10⁻³ moles of C₂H₅OH

As molar mass of alcohol is 46.07g/mol, mass of alcohol is:

1.0569x10⁻³ moles of C₂H₅OH ₓ (46.07g / mol) = 0.04869g of C₂H₅OH

Thus, mass percent of alcohol in the blood using the 28.40g of plasma is:

(0.04869g of C₂H₅OH / 28.40g) × 100 = 0.1714 (w/w) %

A column is filled with four different liquids of different densities. A red liquid, a blue liquid, a green liquid, and a purple
Svet_ta [14]

Answer:

The order of liquid from top to bottom is as follow

  • Purple, green, red, blue

Explanation:

Chart of densities:

  • Red = 1.2 g/cm∧3
  • Blue = 1.6 g/cm∧3
  • green = 0.8 g/cm∧3
  • Purple = 0.1 g/cm∧3

Density:

Density is the ratio of mass and volume as follow

                             d = m/v

Summary:

  • Greater the density, it will be at bottom and vice versa.
  • Blue liquid has greater density so it will be at bottom
  • Purple liquid has low density, so it will be at top.

Magnesium reacts with a certain element to form a compound with the general formula MgX. What would the most likely formula be f
Rama09 [41]

Answer:

K2X

Explanation:

Valency can be defined as the combining power of an element. It is the valency that dictates the value an element will have when writing a chemical formula for its compound.

MgX is a compound of magnesium and an element X. The valency of magnesium in most of its compound is +2. Now for the 2 to have been absent in the chemical formula, this shows that the element X itself have a valency if -2 for the valencies of both to have canceled out.

Now considering the element potassium, it is an alkaline metal belonging to group 1 of the periodic table. Hence, it is expected that it has a valency of +1

Forming a compound with element X means there would be an exchange of valencies between the two. We have established that x has a valency of -2. The formula of the compound thus formed by exchanging the valencies of both element would be K2X

A student heats a sample of Copper (II) sulfate in a crucible and records the data shown in the table. What is the complete form
liberstina [14]

Explanation:

Copper (II) sulfate is usually present as a hydrous state, which is of the form CuSO4 * nH2O, where n is a whole number.

Mass of sample (CuSO4 * nH2O)

= 152.00g - 128.10g = 23.90g.

Mass of water loss during heating

= 152.00g - 147.60g = 4.40g.

Molar mass of H2O = 18g/mol

Moles of H2O in sample

= 4.40g / (18g/mol) = 0.244mol.

Mass of anhydrous sample (CuSO4)

= 23.90g - 4.40g = 19.50g

Molar mass of CuSO4 = 159.61g/mol

Moles of CuSO4 in sample

= 19.50g / (159.61g/mol) = 0.122mol.

Since mole ratio of CuSO4 to H2O

= 0.122mol : 0.244mol = 1:2, n = 2.

Hence we have CuSO4 * 2H2O.

What is the concentration of x2??? in a 0.150 m solution of the diprotic acid h2x? for h2x, ka1=4.5??10???6 and ka2=1.2??10???11
lutik1710 [3]
The first dissociation for H2X:
                        H2X +H2O ↔ HX + H3O
initial 0.15 0 0
change -X +X +X
at equlibrium 0.15-X X X
because Ka1 is small we can assume neglect x in H2X concentration
     Ka1      = [HX][H3O]/[H2X]
4.5x10^-6 =( X )(X) / (0.15)
X = √(4.5x10^-6*0.15)
∴X = 8.2 x 10-4 m
∴[HX] & [H3O] = 8.2x10^-4
the second dissociation of H2X
        HX + H2O↔ X^2 + H3O
    8.2x10^-4 Y 8.2x10^-4
Ka2 for Hx = 1.2x10^-11
Ka2       = [X2][H3O]/[HX]
1.2x10^-11= y (8.2x10^-4)*(8.2x10^-4)
∴y = 1.78x10^-5
∴[X^2] = 1.78x10^-5 m
